Down on the Farm: 6/2/2012

AAA  Salt Lake City Bees stung the Fresno Grizzlies 7-1:

Justin Christian(CF)- 2 for 2, 2B, 2 BB.  BA= .382.
Skyler Stromsmoe(SS)- 2 for 3, HR(3).  BA= .257.
Heath Hembree(RHP)- 1 IP, 2 H, 3 R, 1 BB, 1 K.   ERA= 5.31.

Not much more to say about Christian.  I still think he could help a MLB club.  When the 25 man active roster is carrying Huff, Pill and Belt, it seems like maybe one of those guys ought to switch places with Christian.  Hembree seems to be going backward.  Hope he's working on something.

AA  Erie Seawolves scored 3 runs in the 9'th inning to edge the Richmond Flying Squirrels 3-2 in the completion of yesterday's suspended game:

Johnny Monell(C)- 2 for 3, 2B.  BA= .235.
Chris Heston(RHP)- 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 1 K.  ERA= 0.68.
Chris Gloor(LHP)- 4 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 3 K's.  ERA= 2.92.

Heston's start was cut short by the suspension of the game.

Regularly scheduled game- Richmond Flying Squirrels blanked the Erie Seawolves 5-0(7 inning game):

Gary Brown(CF)- 1 for 4, 2B.  BA= .242.
Tommy Joseph(C)- 2 for 2, 2B, BB.  BA= .281.
Juan Perez(RF)- 3 for 3, SB(6).  BA= .286.
Mike Kickham(LHP)- 7 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 8 K's.  ERA= 3.31.

I believe this was statistically Kickham's best start of the year.

High A  Stockton Ports downed the San Jose Giants 5-3:

Ryan Lollis(CF)- 2 for 5.  BA= .307.
Joe Panik(SS)- 1 for 5, 3B.  BA= .258.
Pablo Sandoval(DH)- 1 for 4.  BA= .250.
Adam Duvall(3B)- 2 for 3, BB.  BA= .280.
Ricky Oropesa(1B)- 1 for 4, 2B.  BA= .259.
Stephen Harrold(RHP)- 2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 4 K's.  ERA= 4.76.

Pablo begins his rehab assignment.

Low A  Asheville Tourists outslugged the Augusta Greenjackets 12-10:

Jesus Galindo(CF)- 2 for 4, 2B, SF.  BA= .220.
Shawn Payne(LF)- 2 for 5, 2B.  BA= .296.
Jose Flores(3B)- 3 for 5, 2B.  BA= .600.
Alberto Mejia(LHP)- 3.2 IP, 4 H, 3 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 4 K's.  ERA= 6.37.

Mejia has allowed just 3 ER in his last 18.1 IP over 8 appearances with 15 K's against just 2 BB's.

DSL  Yankees1 topped the Giants 8-4:

Nothing much to comment in the game.  Fla-Giant has a nice rundown of the DSL roster over on McCovey Chronicles.

  1. Can Christian play, has he ever player 1B or 2B...or SS?

    1. I think Christian is strictly an OF, but do the Giants really need 4 first basemen on the roster?

    2. I mean they had 3 of them sitting on the bench today.

  2. Teams will be asking Joseph, Kickham and Heston when discussing trades.

  3. To me Joseph is untouchable. Think he's gonna develop into a Konerko/Napoli type.

  4. Rough going for Hembree lately. Fortunately the Giants have the luxury and common sense to let their pitchers take their time to develop in the Minors. Just wish they could do this with their hitters too.

  5. Kind of funny that the most diminutive kid is the only one that hits a HR in the system. I wish the prospects had this kid's desire. I am not sure if they still consider Skylar a prospect or just organization fodder but he is entertaining to watch.... TBox
