Brett Wisely SS- 2 for 5. BA= .308. Wisely started the winning rally with a base hit up the middle to drive in the designated runner and put the tying run on base. He also made a lot of solid plays from the SS position.
Heliot Ramos CF- 2 for 5. BA= .318. Ramos followed Wisely's hit by scalding one past SS to put the winning run on base. Ramos would cancel that run with a baserunning gaffe when he failed to run home on a bases loaded grounder by Jorge Soler DH but doubtful the Giants win this game without the Ramos hit that advanced the tying run to 2B.
Patrick Bailey C- 1 for 2, 3 BB. BA= .280. Bailey drew 3 walks during the first 9 innings. His hit in the 9'th drove in the tying run.
Austin Slater PH/RF- 1 for 2. BA= .170. Who knows if this ball would have been caught in standard cirucumstances but everybody was playing in with the bases loaded, 1 out and the game tied. It was a no doubt RBI off the bat and off a good RHP who admittedly was having an off night.
Mike Yastrzemski RF- 1 for 3, 3B. BA= .216. YtY's triple in the 6'th inning gave the Giants the lead. Good thing because the Astros came back to tie in the 7'th and it went to extra-innings. He also made a sensational catch to likely save a run in the 8'th inning.
Kyle Harrison LHP- 6.1 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 0 BB, 3 K's, GO/AO= 10/2. ERA= 3.96. Harrison is not generally a groundball pitcher but he had the Astros killing worms and keeping his infielders busy. He seemed to run out of gas in the 7'th despite sitting at just 77 pitches. Still a better than Quality Start, his second in a row. Love the efficiency.
Sean Hjelle RHP- 0.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 K. ERA= 2.70. Hjelle relieved Harrison with 1 out and a runner on 2B in the 7'th. He got two quick groundball outs and kept the tie alive.
Camilo Doval RHP- 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 3 K's. ERA= 3.76. Doval gave us his usual torture ride but I think that was the best slider I've seen from him. The two baserunners didn't stand an chance with that strikeout stuff!
With the Win, the Giants edged up to 8 games behind the Dodgers in the NL West and wrested back sole possession of the third Wild Card playoff position by 0.5 games over the Cubs, Red and Cardinals.
Jordan Hicks RHP tries to get deeper into his start and secure a winning series tomorrow evening against Ronel Blanco RHP. Blanco has a 2.78 ERA but has allowed 8 ER in 10.1 IP over his last two starts.
That might quiet Slater's haters for a few games.
ReplyDeleteI'm hoping this a sign that Harrison is making a secondary adjustment.
ReplyDeleteThis year Jordan Hicks has thrown more innings (67) @ 27 yo than in any season since 2018 @ 21 yo (77.2). Today's start will be his 14th of the year. In his career, only in 2022 when he started 8 games has he started any.
ReplyDeleteHe is entering personal uncharted territory.
Comparatively, Harrison has a way to go to reach his high level of 2 years ago, but there is much, much more season left.
Cobb and Ray can't come too soon – although Ray has thrown 3 IP in the ACL to begin his return.
