Down on the Farm: 6/13/2024

AAA:  Sacramento River Cats outscored the Reno Aces 8-5:

Grant McCray RF- 1 for 4, HR(1), BB.  BA= .231.
Luis Matos CF- 2 for 4, 2 2B, BB.  BA= .247.
David Villar 3B- 2 for 5, HR(10).  BA= .265.
Hunter Bishop DH- 1 for 4, 2B, BB.  BA= .302.
Donovan Walton 2B- 1 for 4, 3B, BB.  BA= .269.
Brett Auerbach LF- 2 for 3, BB, SB(3).  BA= .329.
Carson Whisenhunt LHP- 5.2 IP, 7 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 5 K's.  ERA= 5.24.
Cody Stashak RHP- 1.1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K's.  ERA= 3.33.

Matos stays hot.

AA:  New Hampshire Fisher Cats outlasted the Richmond Flying Squirrels 8-7(10 innings):

Carter Howell CF- 3 for 5.  BA= .273.
Andy Thomas DH- 1 for 3, 2 BB.  BA= .264.
Jairo Pomares LF- 3 for 4, 2B, HR(4), HBP.  BA= .232.
Seth Corry LHP- 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K.  ERA= 0.00.

Jairo Pomares' slash line for June is .333/353/.606 after a .177 BA in May.  Don't sleep on Carter Howell.  He's shown a plus hit tool at every level after being signed as an undrafted FA out of Augustana in South Dakota in 2022.  Wasn't Augustana where Lyle Alzado went to college? Baby steps for Seth Corry.

A+:  Everett Aquasox topped the Eugene Emeralds 3-2:

Onil Perez DH- 2 for 3, BB.  BA= .262.
Justin Wishkoski 3B- 2 for 4, 2B.  BA= .281.
Tommy Kane LHP- 2.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K's.  ERA= 0.00.

A:  San Jose Giants edged out the Inland Empire 66'ers 7-6(10 innings):

Jonah Cox CF- 1 for 3, 2 BB, SB(37).  BA= .313.
Cole Foster SS- 1 for 5, HR(2).  BA= .246.
Estanlin Cassiani LF- 2 for 4, 2B.  BA= .253.
Luis Perdomo LHP- 4 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 5 K's, GO/AO= 5/1.  ERA= 1.18.

Perdomo is a smallish lefty but has plus command of multiple pitches.  His appearance in the game I attended in Lake Elsinore was impressive. Another sleeper in the system.

ACL:  D'Backs defeated the Giants 5-4:

Maui Ahuna DH- 3 for 5, SB(3).  BA= .320.
Ryan Reckley 2B- 2 for 3, BB.  BA= .364.
Robbie Ray LHP- 1.2 IP, 4 H, 3 R,  0 BB, 3 K's.  ERA= 5.79.
Jose Rengel LHP(18 yo)- 5 IP, 6 H, 2 R, 2 BB, 5 K's, GO/AO= 5/1.  ERA= 6.92.

DSL:  Giants Orange beat Colorado 6-5(7 innings):

Yosneiker Rivas SS- 2 for 4, 2B.  BA= .280.
Santiago Camacho C- 2 for 3, HR(1), BB.  BA= .214.
Jesus Alexander 1B- 3 for 4, 2 2B.  BA= .435.
Albert Jimenez 3B- 2 for 4, HR(2).  BA= .143.
Erick Arosemena DH- 1 for 3, 3B.  BA= .250.
Dilan Fernandez RHP- 3 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 2 K's.  ERA= 0.00
Brayan Cabello RHP- 3 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 3 K's.  ERA= 0.00.

DSL:  Giants Black battered the Nationals 8-5:

Jhonny Level SS- 1 for 4, BB.  BA= .231.
Angel Guzman 1B- 2 for 3, 2B, HR(4), 2 BB.  BA= .467
Juan Colorado 3B- 2 for 4, 2B, BB.  BA= .478.
Yohendry Sanchez C- 1 for 1, BB.  BA= .235.
Evan Estevez RF(16 yo)- 1 for 3, 3B, BB, SF.  BA= .188.

4 HR's in 4 games for Angel GuzmanLevel and Sanchez got the two biggest bonuses from the current signing cycle.  Always exciting to see a 16 yo put up a strong batting line in a boxscore.

  1. Glad to see Whisenhunt getting his walks down a little.

I hope Robbie Ray's outing was just an aberration/one-off...What an improvement he could bring to the Giants in the 2nd half if healthy..

When Pomares gets going, his hit tool is as good as any in the giants system....Seems like he has been around a long time but is only 23!..OTOH, Vaun Brown has disappeared again..

  2. If Bishop is for real, he slides into Conforto's role with better "D" – not that those are big shoes to fill.
McCray, @ a true 23 yo, also fits, if he can hit well enough to play a corner, assuming J H Lee has CF locked up (next year).
Going to be a pressure on keeping Slater and YtY next year, although, as a Free Agent, Slater may have some credible options for what he is: lefty masher with OF skills. True for Yaz, too, mashing RHP with even better OF skills if SF doesn't want to pay $9M, +/-
Do you think YtY would have any value at the trading deadline if SF falls out of WC contention? We would miss him – he is soooo valuable taking away hits with his incredible skill in the outfield.
Interestingly, B-R grades YtY very positively on defense, Fangraphs is quite negative. The latter must not watch him take hits away with nigh impossible gems!

    1. FZ always seems to set himself up for busy offseasons. This next one might be the busiest yet. I am sure Slater and YtY have some trade value but I don't expect the Giants to be sellers.
