Carter Howell was signed as an undrafted free agent in 2022. He had a terrific season last year split between A San Jose and A+ Eugene. Those guys often hit the wall in AA but he's thriving there as well so far.
A+: Tri-City Dust Devils blew away the Eugene Emeralds 7-2:

Matt Mikulski LHP- 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 4 K's. ERA= 4.76.
After a couple of disastrous appearances early in May, Mikulski has allowed just 1 ER in 9.1 IP over his last 5 appearances.
A: Stockton Ports topped the San Jose Giants 10-6:

Bryce Eldridge 1B- 1 for 4, BB. BA= .281.

I really liked what I saw of Cesar Quintas when I saw him hit a monster HR in Lake Elsinore. That was May 24. That HR started a 9-game hit streak in which he is 15 for 34 with 4 HR's and 5 doubles. In an era when SB's have all but disappeared from MLB, is a prospect who hits .300 and steals bases at the top of the batting order like Jonah Cox relevant?

Yes a player like Jonah Cox who hits .300 and steals a crap ton of bases is relevant. Those guys are rare and they provide so much value. Most of the speed guys now a days don’t hit for high average and don’t have enough pop to compensate. The type of players we have been throwing in the lead off position under Farhan has been an absolute joke.
ReplyDeleteThey might be the rarest commodity in all of baseball. Players who can actually hit for average with speed and no power don’t really exist anymore. Billy Hamilton and Dee Gordon tried to be those guys but could never hit enough. Kwan and even Lee are trying to be those guys but falling short. If Cox can hit and run at the major league level he will be the first in maybe 3 decades
