Heliot Ramos and Austin Slater combined to produce 3 runs and that is all the Giants pitchers needed to win this one. Key Lines:
Austin Slater RF- 1 for 2, BB. BA= .156. Slater got on base his first two PA's and Heliot drove him in both times. Slater's season is plagued by injuries. Hopefully he can stay healthy and regular playing time will get his bat going as a lefty killer again.
Heliot Ramos CF- 2 for 4, 2B, HR(6). BA= .327. Wow! Just wow! Two rockets against the lefty in his first two PA's driving in all 3 of the Giants runs for the game. He's starting to get into that ridiculous unsustainable territory where you worry when he cools off it will be a crash landing.
Spencer Howard RHP- 4.2 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 3 BB, 2 K's. ERA= 2.03. There were several warning track flyballs in the BABIP mix so you wonder how sustainable it is but Howard has done what he was acquired to do which is provide SP depth during a rash of injuries.
Erik Miller LHP, Ryan Walker RHP, Tyler Rogers RHP and Camilo Doval RHP locked it down for the final 4.1 innings. Doval did his torture routine putting the tying run on base. He got the final out with runners at 2'nd and 3'rd for his 11'th Save.
The Giants stayed 8.5 games behind the Dodgers in the NL West and are now tied with just the Reds for the final Wild Card playoff spot pulling ahead of the Cubs and Cardinals.
Keaton Winn RHP comes off the IL to try for the sweep facing Nate Eovaldi RHP. The game is at 10:00 AM but on ROKU streaming channel. I guess it's free but you have to jump some hoops to get it. Grrr......!
Doc, ever since day one of Doval's tenure > i have been bothered by his demeanor not only in terms of his facial expressions, but also the manner of his physical presence. He looks almost like he has no emotional, yikes i am having a hard time here. He looks like he really does not want to be there. When you see him walking to the mound; he does not give me that warrior look. Let me get out there and do this thing. I guess what i am saying he does not inspire real confidence. Sergio Romo give me a great sense of confidence he would ge the job done. Bottom line I am hopeful we see some one different in a year or 2.
ReplyDeleteAnyway for what it is worth.

OTOH he doesn't seem to get rattled.
DeleteWhen everyone was gasping at the 9th inning 2-out 2-on liner down the RF line, he might have been the only cool collected combatant in Texas...
