Down on the Farm: 6/12/2024

AAA:  Sacramento River Cats obliterated the Reno Aces 17-3:

Nick Ahmed SS- 2 for 3, BB.  BA= .200.
Luis Matos LF- 3 for 6, 2 2B, HR(5).  BA= .240.
David Villar 1B- 2 for 4, 2B, BB, SF.  BA= .262.
Hunter Bishop DH- 2 for 4, 2 BB, SB(3).  BA= .304.
Blake Sabol C- 2 for 5, HR(2), BB.  BA= .207.
Grant McCray CF- 1 for 5, BB, SB(1).  BA= .222.
Carson Seymour RHP- 6 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 3 BB, 4 K's, GO/AO= 8/4.  ERA= 4.24.

Reno is an extreme hitter's environment but Luis Matos' lines the last two game really stand out.  I'm thinking we'll see Nick Ahmed in a Giants uniform sooner than later.  Pretty impressive start for Seymour given the environment.

Jairo Pomares RF- 2 for 4, 2B.  BA= .209.
Christian Koss SS- 2 for 4.  BA= .364.
Nick Sinacola RHP- 5 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 3 BB, 8 K's.  ERA= 4.82.
Ben Madison RHP- 2 IP, 2 H,  0 R, 0 BB, 4 K's.  ERA= 2.70.

A+:  Everett Aquasox topped the Eugene Emeralds 5-1:

Turner Hill DH- 2 for 4, 2B, BB.  BA= .268.
Onil Perez C- 2 for 3, 2B, BB.  BA= .254.
Jack Choate LHP- 5 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 0 BB, 6 K's.  ERA= 2.08.

Joe Whitman LHP- 5 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 8 K's.  ERA= 4.29.
Austin Warren RHP- 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K.  ERA= 0.00.
Brayan Palencia RHP- 2 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K's.  ERA= 1.50.
Ian Villers RHP- 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 K, Save(1).  ERA= 3.00.

Nomar Diaz C- 1 for 2, HR(1), HBP.  BA= .231.
Alix Hernandez RHP- 5 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 6 K's.  ERA= 3.48.
Josh Wolf RHP- 1.1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 2 K's.  ERA= 2.70.

  1. It's hard for young guys getting the yoyo between the Majors and triple A t to not get down on themselves and keep working...Good to see MATOS staying Hungry and going back to work..He will be back in SF this year,..Speaking of AAA players trying to stay positive, doesn't seem like VILLAR has any future in SF, does it? Giants seem intent on giving McCray a test in SAC, be interesting to watch

Indeed a very good outing from SEYMOR, another talented but inconsistent young SP. .Hopefully guys like him, Whisenhunt and others find that consistency. Two awesome starts from last years top lefty pitcher in the draft (WHITMAN) in SJ and SINACOLA moving up to Richmond with a dominating no-hit, high K performance.

    1. As I have said several times, I see a Adam Duvall comp for David Villar. He may have a moderately successful MLB career but probably with another organization(s).

  2. FZ is determined to get something out of his first draft!
McCray is one of many 2019 draftees who were significantly affected by the 2020 non-development year.
Still only 23 yo in his 6th professional season, he had a positive rookie league introduction at 18 years old, then relegated to oblivion in 2020. A so-so showing with San Jose in 2021, still below the average age for A level, he moved up to A+ in 2022 and held his own after a positive early showing with SJ.
Spent 2023 with Eugene, exibiting speed (52 SBs), some pop (46 XB hits, .417 SLG), good OBP (.360 garnering 72 walks), and a fairly middling batting average but >29% strikeouts while still below the average age.
This year, perhaps an aggressive promotion to AA Richmond, where dreams go to die, he was +/-: some pop (23 xtra base hits), a little speed (6 for 6 SBs), low contact (.210 BA and 32% K-rate), but pretty much held his own in a tough environment, then gaining a promotion to AAA.
The rubber has now met the road.
In a story of 2's: 2 games, 2 hits, 2 RBIs, 2 walks, and 2 K's in 11 plate appearances and somehow scoring 5 runs, he is still only 23 yo, and on the threshold of success.
We're all rooting for you, Grant, just don't run into any walls like Dad.
