Down on the Farm: 6/17/2024

ACL:  Giants outscored the Guardians 9-8:

Ryan Reckley DH- 2 for 6, 3B, HR(2).  BA= .355.
Rayner Arias CF- 1 for 2, BB.  BA= .500.
Lisbel Diaz RF- 2 for 4, SB(1).  BA- .355.
Dario Reynoso 3B- 3 for 4, 2B, BB, SB(7).  BA= .235.
Juan Perez C- 3 for 5.  BA= .306.

All kinds of good stuff here!  Remember Ryan Reckley got a 7 digit signing bonus in the 2022 signing period.  After a couple of tough seasons the project may be starting to find traction and he's still just 19 yo.  The long awaited appearance of Rayner Arias in Arizona!  Can't wait to see what he does the rest of the season.

DSL:  White Sox edged out Giants Orange 2-1:

Jesus Alexander 1B- 3 for 4, 2B.  BA= .452.
Brandon Vasquez DH(17 yo)- 2 for 3, SB(2).  BA= .300.
Randry De Leon(18 yo) RHP- 4 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 5 K's.  ERA= 0.82.
Frainer Mejias RHP- 2.1 IP, 0 H, 1 R, 1 BB, 3 K's.  ERA= 0.96.

DSL:  Giants Black defeated the Nationals 6-3:

Oliver Tejada CF- 2 for 4, HR(2).  BA= .375.
Evan Estevez LF(16 yo)- 2 for 4.  BA= .292.
Ricardo Estrada LHP- 5 IP, 3 H, 3 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 5 K's.  ERA= 1.50.
Kendry Castro RHP(17 yo)- 2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 2 K's. ERA= 1.69.
Jan Caraballo RHP- 2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K's.  ERA= 0.00.

  1. If the Giants can fall to a top 5 (?) pick , they would have a shot at 2-way Forever Gator Jac Caglianone, who is carrying UF in college WS (season: .412 BA, 33 HRs, 68 RBI. upper 90's FB). Doc's December ranking isn't that high.
Would be hard to do: the bottom 5 are quite solidly where they are – the other 25 teams have a shot of at least a WC!
KNBR yesterday finally kind of came to the realization that SF would be unlikely to improve in a July trading deadline competing with 24 other teams who would be more likely to give up high value prospects. Other than Bryant, has FZ seriously gone after anyone?

    1. Jac Caglianone is in this year's draft and the draft order is determined by last year's record so it's unlikely Jac falls to them at #13 which is where they will draft.

    2. The way the MLB draft works and the timeline for prospect development, it generally does not pay to tank unless you are planning to do it for about 5 years in a row.

    3. ...even then it is a highly suspect strategy.

    4. Contrary to Docs rational take, as a Seminole, I say no to Jac Caglianone even if he was avaiable!!! :)..As for the deadline, this Giants team is not one you go Bog game hunting for....only area where I think the Giants should "buy" is LHRP..they need one desperately....Hopefully, they wait out the storm at SP and some of the injured (snell, Cobb, ray, Beck) come back...Then just either go with all the vet position players you spent the money on the last few years, or, deal as many of them as possible and go with the kids...Next month will decide that guess..

  2. Thanks, doc, that was really stupid: of course, a team tanks in order to get a better pick the next year! Geez, I know that!
