  1. Hopefully, Sandro Fabian might be able to quip “The reports of my death are greatly exaggerated.”
He didn't fare too well as a 20-yo at A+ last year but he's off to a late but good start now, still more than a year younger than his contemporaries (except Heliot Ramos aka Superman).

Another "Little" Giant outfielder, Courtney Hawkins, is an interesting acquisition by Farhan. Former 1st rounder (13th pick) he floundered at AA & AAA before being released. Big guy can mash but doesn't do it often enough and may be a defensive liability. FZ saw something there.

  2. OT: Two game suspension for the runner involved in a Posey-type collision at home plate.

    https://www.mlb.com/news/jake-marisnick-suspended-for-plate-collision

Lucroy was wasted by the runner and suffered a concussion and broken nose.

I oppose alot of modern changes to the game but catchers need to be protected and I like the Posey rule.

  3. Marisnick (the runner) didn't intentionally run him down. He made a very bad decision to cut to the fair territory side of the plate, where Lucroy was set up. He was kind of in front of the plate, up the line a bit.

I think the suspension is meant to send a message. Catchers get fair territory to set up in, runners get foul territory to try and score. Kind of a bummer for Marisnick, who, I believe, was within the bounds of the current rule. Unfortunate for everyone.

But I agree, they gotta protect the catcher. Catchers are just helpless in this type of collision. I'm almost to the point where I'd support an automatic force play at home. Just let the catcher treat home like 1st base. Remove any reason for a collision.

  4. Automatic force play at home = I like that, Did MLB even consider that? Imagine the chaos and injuries if all runners to First had the option to knock the ball out of the fist baseman's glove and it was permissable to gang tackle him.

  5. Don't agree with automatic force at the plate, but the penalty for contact should be so severe it won't happen:
    1. Runner is out, perhaps batter, too.
    2. Runner is ejected.
    3. Runner gets a minimum 5 day suspension without pay. If the player covering home is injured, runner is suspended for the same time.
    4. Play is reviewable: if there is evidence that the contact was initiated by the defensive player at the plate, the runner scores and the remedies are reversed.
