Game Wrap 7/27/2019: Padres 5 Giants 1

The Giants offense was quiet again and this time the pitching was not able to pick them up.  Key Lines:

Mike Yastrzemski RF- 2 for 3, 2B, BB.  BA= .260.  YtY scored the Giants only run when Pablo Sandoval singled him home on B2B hits in the 6'th inning.

Shaun Anderson RHP- 5 IP, 7 H, 4 R, 2 BB, 7 K's.  ERA= 5.06.  Not quite as bad as the line looks.  Anderson committed the unpardonable sin of walking the pitcher to lead off the 5'th inning.  He then brushed back Fernando Tatis and Tatis got up and crushed one to R-CF for a 2-run blast that was the big blow of the game.  Anderson was lifted after allowing a leadoff double in the 6'th inning that eventually scored.

*********************************************************************************

The Loss left the Giants 2.5 games behind 3 teams who are tied for the 2 Wild Card berths.

*********************************************************************************

Madison Bumgarner takes the mound tomorrow afternoon facing TBD in his last start before the Trade Deadline.  Ironically the outcome of this game may determine whether Farhan buys or sells and Bummy's performance may impact his trade value.  Drama!

*********************************************************************************

Sergio Romo traded to the Twins.  Derek Holland traded to the Cubs for cash.  Oh, and maybe I'm late to the party, but I'm pretty sure that twitter piece about his "secret sauce" is satire.  "Holland Ace Sauce!"  LOL!

  2. If the Giants hold or buy with an eye towards the Wild Card for BOCH, I think they need to send ANdersson down abd bring up DROD..Jusat think Andersson needs to work on things....But, if they do sell, I guess they can just throw him out every 5th day in SF

I enjoy this team, love watching them and would not mind seeeing them battle the next few months for a PO spot...And I dont want to see MADBUM anywhere but as a Giant..so...HEART says dont sell and maybe strategically add....BUT the HEAD says SELL becasue I just dont see it happeneing the rest of the year given their roster and SP.

  3. word is the Brewers are willing to move Moustakas for pitching...Madbum for Moos? Both FA's, who would be most valuable fur the stretch and provide the most WARs?

    1. SF can't trade Bum AND go for it: he is the only reliable SP they have!

  4. Eric Sogard LHH, scratched from lineup today, better Last 7 games than any Giant...

Facing a rookie lefty they've never seen before, Boch can field an entire RHH lineup, led by Donovan Solano @ .292 for his last 7 games. Although it falls off quickly after that, the Padres plan a "bull pen" game so Adrian Morejon, age 20, is unlikely to go more than a couple innings. If needful of some LHH to have a legitimate lineup, they could be stashed down the order in case SD brings in a RHP in the 3rd.
This game may well go to either 1-0 with an unearned run.

  5. The front office needs to decide if this roster can reach 87+ wins for the wild card, my head is saying no, and if the trade offers they get are good enough to break up the team. But I don't want to see Madbum go anywhere though, and hope Zaidi does some selective buying. No rentals and no trades involving top prospects please.

  6. The question is NOT how many wins the Giants need to win, the question is can they win enough to get EVEN with 3 of the 5 teams ahead of them.

Philadelphia has only 1 more win than the Giants have. Can they win 1 more game than the Phillies with 56 games to play?

The rest have only have 2 more wins than the Giants: Chicago, St Louis, Washington, and Milwaukee.
They just have to play a LITTLE better -- 2 wins -- than two of those 4 teams.

They all play one at a time and the "delta" is easy to keep track of -- they could be tied with Philadelphia just by winning 2 of the next 3!

They get to play each of the teams ahead of them (except Milwaukee), so they don't need someone else to win for them:
    Philadelphia 7
    St Louis 4
    Washington 3
    Chicago 3
Milwaukee has 11 to play with Chicago, 9 with St Louis, and 3 with Washington.
Cubs have 10 with St Louis and 3 with Philly (plus Milwaukee.
    Phils have 5 with Nationals.

As long as they keep Bumgarner, they have a chance although they ought to try to find a SP and a power hitter.
