Will we be seeing some of these names on Giants uniforms a week from now or will they be part of "buy" trade packages to other organizations?  Only Farhan knows, and maybe he doesn't know yet!

Rookie AZL  D'Backs pounded the Giants Black 9-2:

NTSH.

*********************************************************************************

Rookie AZL  Giants Orange defeated the Brewers Gold 4-3:

Abdiel Layer 3B- 2 for 4, 2B.  BA= .304.
Edison Mora 2B- 2 for 4, 2B.  BA= .232.
Nick Morreale RHP- 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K's.  ERA= 1.50.
Wilkelma Castillo RHP- 4.2 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 6 K's.  ERA= 3.42.
Jorge Labrador RHP- 1 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K.  ERA= 2.38.

Wilkelma Castillo was so invisible last year in the DSL(9 ER in 12 IP) I didn't recognize the name when he showed up in AZL boxscores this season despite a very recognizable first name.  He has actually put up the most impressive numbers of the impressive DSL pitching contingent that graduated to the AZL from last year.

DSL  Pirates2 edged out the Giants 2-1:

Luis Matos CF- 3 for 3, 2B.  BA= .382.
Jose Peralta SS- 2 for 4.  BA= .273.
Jason Bonilla RHP- 4.2 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 3 BB, 4 K's.  ERA= 3.94.

Not sure how many more ways I can say that Luis Matos is dominating the DSL and should be playing at a higher level.

  1. It has been a refreshing change to watch the Little Giants take the first 2 games from the Visalia Rawhide - a rare event, as the Rawhide had only lost 11 games at home all year prior to this homestand! Not refreshing in the stands as game time temperature was in the mid-90s. Sean Hjelle is one tall and thin young man. He towers over his teammates. He obviously pitched well last night, giving up a single and a triple (actually should have been a double that Logan Baldwin misplayed into a triple). He has an easy delivery, somewhat of a high leg kick but not a huge stride toward the plate. He is short and effective out of the stretch. He was getting his fastball and offspeed pitches over for strikes. A friend who has seats right behind home plate said his fastball was hitting 94 MPH. He can also field his position, as he had a grounder hit right at him and he snagged it and threw a bullet to 2nd base to start a double play. I wonder is he and Corry will each get a late season promotion? Joey Bart seemed to be working on hitting the ball the opposite way in his first 3 at bats, as each went to right field, two liners that were caught and one fly ball. Then in his last at bat he smoked one down the left field line. Villar followed with an even longer homerun to left field. Sandro Fabian looks like he put on some muscle from last year and appears to represent a mid-level prospect, something that wasn't apparent last year. APGiantsfan

  2. If the Giants do become buyers here in the next few days I could see Hjelle as a trade piece. Practically any starters in their system should be available as trade bait. If they continue to draft and develop their offensive players they can buy all the pitching they will need in free agency in 2-3 years when the offense is home grown and cheap.

  3. No way is Hjelle a trade piece. Too high of a pick is performing well, and has a unique advantange in his hiegth. He's legit and if generally the Giants do a good job of keeping good minor league pitching and selling the ones that are a fools gold like Bickford. He stays

  4. I never thought they would have traded Bickford or Wheeler but guess what? They did! The Giants aren’t afraid to trade young arms that were drafted high because they know that ANYONE can pitch at Oracle. The price for starters on the FA market is lower than ever now as well and we all know how hard it is to sign offense to come play here so it kinda makes a lot of sense if you actually think about it. Develop the offense and use the pitchers as trade chips.

  5. For every Bumgarner that the team develops, there's an Alderson who looks great to other teams and is used as a trade chip. Keep the special ones and trade the merely "good" ones.
