Down on the Farm: 7/12/2019

AAA  Fresno Grizzlies mauled the Sacramento River Cats 11-6:

Mike Gerber LF- 1 for 4, 2B, BB.  BA= .315.
Henry Ramos RF- 1 for 3, HR(12), BB.  BA= .269.
Levi Michael 2B- 1 for 3, HR(8), BB.  BA= .246.
Dillon McNamara RHP- 1.2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K's.  ERA= 2.35.
Sam Selman LHP- 1.2 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 2 BB, 3 K's.  ERA= 1.56.

AA  Harrisburg Senators defeated the Richmond Flying Squirrels 6-3:

Peter Maris 3B- 1 for 3, 2B, 2 BB. BA= .286.
Gio Brusa LF- 3 for 4, SB(3).  BA= .251.
Garrett Williams LHP- 4.1 IP, 7 H, 3 R, 6 BB, 1 K.  ERA= 3.74.

The walks reappear for Garrett Williams.

A+  Rancho Cucamonga Quakes flattened the San Jose Giants 4-0:

Josiah Gray RHP(Quakes)- 7 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 7 K's.  ERA= 2.14.

Really nothing to see on the Giants side.  They managed just 2 hits in the game.  Josiah Gray is a dude who I really liked before the 2018 draft who the Reds took in the Competitive Balance Round(which means the Giants didn't have a chance at him because he was not a high first round talent).  The Dodgers acquired him in the Kemp/Puig/Wood trade along with another player I really like, Jeter Downs.  Gray is pitching like an ace for the Quakes with 80 K's and 13 BB's in 67.1 IP.  Just an example of how CBB picks can add to an organization's talent pool and how you don't necessarily have to get Top 100 prospects back in trades to dramatically improve your farm system.

A  Asheville Tourists swatted the Augusta Greenjackets 3-1:

Jacob Gonzalez 3B- 2 for 4.  BA- .233.
JJ Santa Cruz LHP- 3 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 4 K's.  ERA= 2.93.

Short Season  Salem-Keizer Volcanoes topped the Eugene Emeralds 11-8:

Simon Whitman SS- 1 for 3, 3 BB.  BA= .278.
Sean Roby 3B- 2 for 6, 2B.  BA= .349.
Ricardo Genoves DH- 1 for 3, 2B, 2 BB.  BA= .282.
Alexander Canario CF- 3 for 5, 2B.  BA= .225.
Tyler Flores 1B- 2 for 4, 3B, BB.  BA= .287.
Jeff Houghtby 2B- 1 for 2, 3 BB.  BA= .270.
Tyler Schimpf RHP- 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 3 BB, 3 K's.  ERA= 1.29.
Andy Rohloff RHP- 2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 4 K's.  ERA= 1.93.

Alexander Canario's bat seems to be coming alive in S-K with 6 hits in 14 AB's over his last 3 games.

Rookie AZL  Giants Orange edged out the Brewers Blue 2-1:

Luis Toribio 3B- 1 for 2, 2B, BB.  BA= .320.
Logan Webb RHP- 5 IP, 6 H, 1 R, 0 BB, 6 K'.  ERA= 1.80.
Wilkelma Castillo RHP- 3 IP, 0 H, 0 BB, 4 K's.  ERA= 4.00.
Jamie Callahan RHP- 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K(Save).  ERA= 1.17.

Logan Webb is back from his suspension with a rehab start.  Looks like he is ready to move right up to Richmond or even Sacramento.  Might not be a stretch to think we could see him in SF before the end of the season if the Giants go all in for selling at the deadline, although that is starting to look more iffy every day.

Rookie AZL  Giants Black outscored the Athletics Gold 9-7:

Ghordy Santos 2B- 3 for 5, 2B.  BA= .262.
Grant McCray CF- 2 for 5, 2B.  BA= .177.
Logan Wyatt 1B- 2 for 5.  BA= .308.
Jairo Pomares RF- 2 for 5, Assist(home).  BA= .362.
Richgelon Juliana LF- 2 for 5, SB(1).  BA= .300.
Dilan Rosario SS- 2 for 5, 2B, 3B.  BA= .224.
Matt Malkin C- 4 for 5, 2B.  BA= .286.
Jean Pena DH- 2 for 5.  BA= .271.
Nick Vincent RHP- 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K.  ERA= 0.00.
Keyvius Sampson RHP- 4 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 4 K's.  ERA= 3.27.

Too much good stuff!  Dilan Rosario is really standing out as a possible steal in the 2019 draft.  I really like his scouting report and videos on Perfect Game and his performance so far is backing that up.

DSL Pirates2 downed the Giants 6-2:

Luis Matos CF(17 yo)- 2 for 5.  BA= .341.
Yoniel Ramirez RHP(18 yo)- 2.2 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K's.  ERA= 4.05.

  1. Atlantic League announce 4 new rules:
Pitcher required to step off the rubber in order to attempt a pickoff.
1 foul bunt is permitted with 2 strikes before strikeout is called.
Check swing rule made more batter friendly.
Batters may steal 1st on any pitch not caught by catcher.
The proverbial Abner Doubleday must be spinning in his grave .
Wasn't putting a runner on 2nd to begin extra innings bad enough?

  2. Gregory Santos bad outing a day ago may be related to an earlier injury. He's gone back to the IL.
    From GPT @giantsprospects
Santos got injured in his second start of the season, missed two months with that shoulder injury. Returned, made six starts, and is now back on the IL. Current issue is not known to me.

  3. If the box score is accurate in the Rookie AZL Giants Orange game, Giants pitchers threw only one ball the entire game. It shows Logan throwing 31 pitches - 30 strikes, then Castillo 18 pitches - 18 strikes and Callahan 5 pitches - 5 strikes. 54 pitches total in a nine inning game - hard to believe. APGiantsfan
