Ryan Vogelsong took a shutout into the 7'th inning and the bullpen finished the job while the offense got production throughout the lineup to complete one of the Giants easier wins of the season. Key Lines:
Matt Duffy- 1 for 4, 3B. BA= .293. Duffman drove in 2 runs with a triple and maintains his death grip on the starting 3B job. Check out a nice writeup on Duffy by John Sickels over on minorleagueball.com.
Andrew Susac- 2 for 4. BA= .246. Susac continues to provide solid offense when he gets a chance despite spotty playing time as the reserve catcher.
Ryan Vogelsong- 6.2 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 6 K's. ERA= 4.38. Every time you think Vogie is nearing the end of his line, he comes up with a gem like this. 6+ Vogelstrong innings. Dude just won't give up, ever! One of the great individual stories in the history of baseball as far as I can recall.
The Win kept the Giants 2.5 games behind the NL West leading Dodgers who finally pushed across a run to top the Rangers who gave them all kind of fits 1-0. The D'Backs lost to the Angels to fall 5.5 games off the pace in 3'rd place.
The Giants now move on for a 3 game showdown with the Dodgers in LA with Chris Heston starting off tonight against the surprising Mike Bolsinger.
Around the League: Just have to mention that Pablo Sandoval was benched and may face penalties from MLB for using social media during the game. Turns out he hit the "Like" button on an Instagram photo of a rather full figured woman during a bathroom break in the clubhouse. Eww!!!

ReplyDeleteVogelsong doesn't give up while Cain Saturday and Peavy Sunday in Sacramento and Heston, Hudson, and Lincecum in LA make their cases for 3 spots in the rotation!
In the wild wild west, will the real pitcher(s) please stand up!
