Matt Duffy once again led the offense for the Giants which finally gave Madison Bumgarner some support to win the rubber game of the weekend series against the Rockies. Key Lines:
Matt Duffy- 3 for 4, 2B, 3B, HR(8). BA= .303. Duffy probably should have had another double which would not have given him a cycle. He hit a line drive down the 1B line that ticked off Wilin Rosario's glove and rolled down into the bullpen area. The ump called it foul. Replays seemed to clearly show the ball changing direction at the point where it passed Rosario's glove and the glove seemed to be clearly inside the foul line. The replay officials upheld the call on the field. The explanation was they could not tell for certain if the glove was inside the line or not. Oh well! Duffy still had a stupendously good day at the plate and is starting to get some national recognition and even some declarations of fantasy baseball relevance.
Buster Posey- 2 for 4. BA= .300. Buster was again the big Ribeye man driving in Duffy after his triple and later drove in Bumgarner and Duffy after Duffy's double. When Duffy moved into the 3-hole, he admitted he was a big overwhelmed by the responsibility. Buster told him to just be himself and not try to do too much. Buster has backed up those words by stepping up his RBI game.
Brandon Crawford- 1 for 4, HR(10). BA= .275. Crawford seems to be a bit of an instigator when it comes to friendly rivalries within the team. He told Duffy, that the Duffman was getting to close in the HR total. Sure enough, Crawford hit one out to take a 2 dinger lead.
Madison Bumgarner- 2 for 3, HR(2). BA= .235. Bumgarner is growing as a hitter. When he first started hitting HR's, he just went up there and swung as hard as he could at 3 pitches. If he connected, it was a HR. If he didn't, he walked back to the dugout and sat down. Now, you can really see him being selective with the pitches and and taking much more controlled swings, albeit with just as much power and just as much enthusiasm, but if you watch his AB's, you can see and feel the difference.
Madison Bumgarner- 7.2 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 2 BB, 8 K's. ERA= 2.99. Nolan Arenado touched him up for a 2 run dinger in the first inning, but he settled down after that and the Giants offense picked him up.
The Win left the Giants still 1 game behind the NL West leading Dodgers who topped the Marlins 2-0 behind Zack Greinke. The Giants now lead the race for the second Wild Card playoff spot by 1.5 games.
The Giants have a travel day tomorrow before starting a series in Miami on Tuesday, June 30. Ryan Vogelsong gets the call in game 1 facing the hated Mat Latos.
