Game Wrap 6/21/2015: Dodgers 10 Giants 2

The Giants and Tim Lincecum got blown out early in this one.  Not much to analyze here.  Stuff happens.  Key Lines:

Tim Lincecum- 1.1 IP, 7 H, 5 R, 1 BB, 2 K's.  ERA= 3.86.  Timmy has pitched pretty well this year as the ERA after this shellacking testifies.  He'll need to recover quickly in his next start as the competition for SP rotation slots is about to get fierce.

Yusmeiro Petit- 3.2 IP, 8 H, 5 R, 1 BB, 1 K, 4 HR.  ERA= 4.10.  Petit sometimes gives up a lot of dingers and it was dinger weather in LA today.

Mike Broadway- 2.0 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 1 K.  ERA= 1.93.  One day after Hunter Strickland made a statement, Broadway makes one too.  Somebody is going to go down when Jean Machi comes off the DL.

The Loss dropped the Giants 1.5 games behind the Dodgers in the NL West race.  The also fell 1 game behind the Cubs in the race for the final Wild Card playoff spot.

The Giants get a day off before beginning a homestand against the Pesky Padres with Madison Bumgarner facing Odrisamer Despaigne.

  1. i was there.

bad timmy, bad petit, bad baserunning, some bad fielding by of's

bad timmy....was getting 2 strikes on most of the batters...but had no put away pitch...tried to con them with slow fb's up...but they werent biting....they have been studying the tapes....

bad petit...everything up and in the zone and no movement....cant believe the org didnt prepare him for a possible long stint in this one

belt cannot play left....should not be tried again

watched balls hit by the bums that wouldve been a can o corn at att and most other parks, find their way out of dodger stadium....sometimes the ball carries there...its strange, cuz no wind at all

was a guy sitting behind me, my bro and nephew who decided to be obnoxious all game. i ignored him, but it seems he was doing a bit more to my nephew, who didnt choose to tell my bro till after the game....too bad, cuz the new bums regime takes stuff like that seriously and wouldve tossed him

ill give the giants a pass on this one....but on tuesday, with peavy returning, seems they are going to have to make a decision on timmy, and i cant seeing him sticking in the rotation for much longer

when the giants return in late aug, i will not be attending any of the games...seems im a jinx

  2. On a more pleasant note, though for a more distant future, the Giants have now signed all the eleven draft picks beyond Bickford, number one. The most recent was Andrew Suarez, the #2. Presumably they now know how much money they have left to make a firm offer to Bickford, I.e., the limit of their bonus pool plus 5%. Since Bickford has said, I gather, that he's going to sign, the upper tier of the draft should be ours pretty shortly.

  3. Last night was certainly hard to watch. Just a dud all the way around. But in my eyes, it totally reinforces the narrative that has played out for this franchise over the past 5 years. The Dodgers pounding the Giants on ESPN is so typical I almost had to chuckle. That performance will linger in the mouths of the national media and most baseball fans, who will again write the Giants off. That in turn will keep the chip squarely on the shoulders of the organization and players, who certainly don't need any extra incentive to make a 2nd half run... it's a formula that has done us well over the years.

Apparently I'm in the minority on this viewpoint, as more than a few "die-hard" Giants fans were losing their minds via social media last night. I heard things like "embarrassment," "Lincecum should retire," and even some envy of the Dodgers. We've beaten them 9 of 13 tries this year... REALLY people?! To top it all off, I was even blocked by a fellow fan and Giants writer for suggesting the Giants were doing "just fine" in the standings, especially without Pence, Peavy or Cain. I can say that was a first for me, and it was actually quite upsetting for whatever reason.

Ok, rant over. Social media can be amazing, but it can also be a burden sometimes! I am very intrigued and excited to see what this rotation looks like in the next couple weeks. Getting Peavy and Cain back is HUGE, even if they aren't the All-Star pitchers they once were. Fresh arms, at this point in the year, are a very good thing.

    1. Obviously they don't realize you are Covechatter!
I have to keep reminding myself as a long suffering Giants fan of over 50 years.
If the boys never win a series again in my life time, I have enjoyed a tremendous run.
Having said that I am always laughing at some of the crap that comes out from the announcers on ESPN.
      Always enjoys your views Cove.
