The Giants took fireballing Matt Harvey deep 3 times to pick up a pitching performance by Tim Hudson that could have been better. Key Lines:
Norichika Aoki- 4 for 5. BA= .333. Aoki is a hit machine. Makes it look easy. Don't know what else to say. He also threw out Curtis Granderson who was trying to score from 2'nd on a single to left at home.
Joe Panik- 3 for 5, HR(6). BA= .324. Panik probably moved ahead of Brandon Crawford in the race for top fWAR on the club tonight. I'm running out of things to day about Panik too. I mean, I have been a Joe Panik supporter from day one, but he is doing things on a nightly basis that I find amazing. I think in a moment of irrational optimism, someone once said his ceiling was a poor man's Chase Utley. Maybe he's a rich man's Chase Utley! The home run was no pop fly around the foul pole either. It came off the aforementioned Harvey and landed well beyond the 370 ft sign.
Buster Posey- 2 for 5, 2 2B. BA= .295. Posey lashed a double down he RF line and later a double down the LF line. Foul line to foul line hitting. You know he's going good when he does that.
Brandon Belt- 2 for 5, HR(8). BA= .296. Opposite field power.
Justin Maxwell- 1 for 4, HR(5). BA= .240. Maxwell gets to start for awhile with Pence and Blanco out. He crushed a hanging changeup for the dinger.
Tim Hudson- 5 IP, 8 H, 4 R, 2 BB, 1 K, GO/AO= 8/0. ERA= 4.60. Huddy was getting ground balls but missed a QS by a run and an inning.
Santiago Casilla- 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K, Save(18). ERA= 2.49. Casilla threw 3 straight balls to open the inning. Kruk always says that Casilla is fine once he throws his first strike. That was true tonight.
The Win put the Giants in tie with the Dodgers atop the NL West pending the outcome of the Dodgers-D'Backs game. The Giants remain 1.5 games ahead of the Cubs and Pirates in the race for the first Wild Card playoff spot.
Tim Lincecum tries for a series sweep facing LHP Jon Niese tomorrow evening.

Pretty amazing to me that the Giants have the 4th best record in base ball with two of their starters on the DL and Pence making his second trip. While lots of factors, Duffy grabbing hold of 3b has been key. Is he out hitting Panda at this point? If Cain comes back strong, this team could put the kibash on "odd year WS" theory.
ReplyDeletePanik and Aoki making an All Star push? Panik has been solid all year. Aoki is now 4th in the NL in batting and 2nd in hits.
