Down on the Farm: 5/26/2015

AAA  Las Vegas 51's doubled the score on the Sacramento River Cats 6-3:

Jarrett Parker(LF)- 2 for 4.  BA= .275.
Kevin Frandsen(3B)- 3 for 4.  BA= .300.
Mac Williamson(RF)- 1 for 3, BB.  BA= .333.
Jake Peavy(RHP)- 6 IP, 9 H, 6 R, 1 BB, 5 K's, GO/AO= 7/1.  ERA= 6.12.

It was 110 degrees at game time with a 10 MPH wind blowing out to CF and the 51's jumped on Peavy for 5 runs in the first frame.  He settled down after that and Pitched shutout ball in innings 3-6.  Gotta wonder if Peavy is an upgrade on what the Giants currently have in the rotation, though.

AA  Trenton Thunder blanked the Richmond Flying Squirrels 4-0:

Austin Slater(2B)- 1 for 3, BB.  BA= .333.

Slater has a successful AA debut.

High A  Modesto Nuts topped the San Jose Giants 4-3 in 10 innings:

Seth Harrison(CF)- 3 for 4, 3B, HBP.  BA= .283.

Dylan Davis(RF)- 2 for 5.  BA= .224.
Chris Johnson(RHP)- 6 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 1 BB, 2 K's.  ERA= 5.40.
Jake McCasland(RHP)- 3 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 3 K's.  ERA= 4.19.

Short Season  Spokane Indians defeated the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes 4-1:

Ronnie Jebavy(CF)- 1 for 3, BB, SB(1).  BA= .286.
Mark Nelson(RF)- 1 for 3, HR(1).  BA= .143.
Andrew Leenhouts(LHP)- 6 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 5 K's.  ERA= 0.69.

Jebavy is already showing off his 5 tools in his first 2 pro games with a HR in game 1 and a SB in this one.  I think Nelson much be an undrafted FA out of Florida Atlantic.  This is Leenhouts' 3'rd rodeo in Salem-Keizer.

Rookie AZL  Indians outscored the Giants 8-5:

Ashford Fulmer(DH)- 1 for 2, BB, HBP, 2 SB(2).  BA= .200.

Dylan Brooks(RHP)- 4 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 0 BB, 3 K's, GO/AO= 7/0.  ERA= 2.25.

Mikey Edie drew a walk and stole his 4'th base in this one.  Edwards was the Giants 40'th round pick in this year's draft.

  1. MLBTR reports that Phil Bickford has signed. Since he signed for slot, the team has a couple of hundred thousand dollars to use, if they care to, to sweeten offers to players who look good to them in the lower tiers of their draft, including the HS pitcher (Little?) whom they drafted much later than they otherwise would, reportedly, because they thought he'd be very hard to sign.

    1. The Giants have already signed 20 of their first 22 picks. I am not sure who the big reach picks remain. Anyone know who the remaining big targets could be?

The 12th rounder, HS SS Hector Santiago would presumably be the top target, but there are a lot of HS kids lower in the draft that I am ignorant about.

    2. I got $147K+ left in my accounting. Did you subtract the extra $100K it took to sign Hinojosa?

Little and Bowling were the two names who I recall as big maybes at the back. Moniot has already said no, but he wants a lot more than he was slotted for, so that's OK, he can work on getting that high in college.

Yeah, Santiago would seem to be the most logical target for the remaining money.
