Madison Bumgarner gave up a pair of dingers including a grand slam by Jeff Francouer, but the Giants hitters picked him up with a barrage of base hits for the Win. Key Lines:
Norichika Aoki- 3 for 3, BB, HBP, Assist(2B). BA= .324. Aoki was at his best reaching base 5 times and making a perfect play on a carom off the wall in foul territory to take a double away from Cameron Rupp at 2B. Is there a more fun guy to watch in baseball than Aoki?
Matt Duffy- 2 for 5, 2B. BA= .281. Duffman had the only XBH for the Giants. He's making it very tough for Bochy to find a reason to put McGehee back in there. Matt Duffy!
Madison Bumgarner- 2 for 4. BA= .185. It's almost impossible to find hitting splits on pitchers, but Bummy's bat seems to be alive after a slow start to the season.
Madison Bumgarner- 8 IP, 6 H, 5 R, 0 BB, 11 K's. ERA= 3.38. Dominant start by K/BB. It's a very live ballpark and Frenchy is not much of a hitter, so it's probably just a fluky line. 9 out of 10 starts with those peripheral numbers will end up with 0 or 1 runs allowed.
Santiago Casilla- 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 2 K's, Save(17). ERA= 2.59. Second consecutive strong Save from Casilla. He probably should not be available tomorrow.
The Win put the Giants into a tie for first place in the NL West with the Dodgers pending their game against the Cardinals tonight. This whole Giants/Cardinals/Dodgers triangulation is a whole story in itself. What percentage of the Dodgers losses so far this season are at the hands of the Giants and Cardinals?
Ryan Vogelsong tries for a series sweep against Sean O'Sullivan tomorrow in Citizen's Bank Ballpark.

11 of the Dodgers 24 loses have been versus StL or SF. Kershaw goes for them tonight.
ReplyDeleteThat was a weird game. Bumgarner pitched a great game -- 11 strike outs, 0 walks and threw almost no balls (I'm thinking he was around 80% strikes today), yet he got 100% burned for his mistakes with the Phillies leaving nobody on base during his 8 innings.
ReplyDeleteIn the meantime the Giants stranded 11 making the game unnecessarily close.
And Aoki... Yeah, I agree. He's really fun to watch as there's just something irrepressible about the way he plays the game. I don't know exactly what it is, but there is definitely some charisma going on there.
