Down on the Farm: 5/31/2015

AAA  Sacramento River Cats doubled the score on the Colorado Skysox 10-5:

Darren Ford(CF)- 2 for 6, SB(11).  BA= .265.
Casey McGehee(3B)- 2 for 4, HR(1), BB, SF.  BA= .292.
Ehire Adrianza(SS)- 1 for 4, 3B, 2 BB.  BA= .330.
Jarrett Parker(LF)- 2 for 4, 2 HR(11), BB.  BA= .282.
Trevor Brown(Catcher)- 3 for 4, BB.  BA= .262.
Robert Coello(RHP)- 7 IP, 7 H, 4 R, 3 ER, 2 BB, 4 K's.  ERA= 3.50.

Casey McGehee seems to be getting some traction.  Jarrett Parker is red hot, hitting .375 over his last 10 games. He had slumped in the first half of May after hitting .300 in April.  His K rate is still north of 30% though.  Coello has been remarkably consistent.  This was his 7'th QS in 11 starts.  He's never gone less than 5 IP in a start and has just one start with more then 3 ER allowed.  Just don't know if that plays at the MLB level.

AA  Reading Fightin' Phils defeated the Richmond Flying Squirrels 6-3:

Mac Williamson(RF)- 1 for 4, 3B.  BA= .304.
Kyle Crick(RHP)- 5.1 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 6 BB, 3 K's.  ERA= 1.78.

Kyle Crick is  like a 3 true outcomes pitcher.  He was not hittable in this game, but still has that wild hair up his nose!

San Jose Giants topped the Inland Empire 66'ers 3-2:

Christian Arroyo(SS)- 2 for 5.  BA= .342.
Hunter Cole(RF)- 3 for 5, 2B.  BA= .338.
Jesus Galindo(CF-LF)- 0 for 3, 2 BB, SB(l1).  BA= .274.
Chase Johnson(RHP)- 6.2 IP, 8 H, 2 R, 0 BB, 6 K's, GO/AO= 7/1.  ERA= 2.68.
Ian Gardeck(RHP)- 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 3 K's, Save(2).  ERA= 4.22.

Chase Johnson has been both a prospect and a suspect.  He seems to be slowly but surely putting the suspect label behind him.  He just needs to keep doing what he is doing through the rest of the season.  Good to see Gardeck get back on his horse after a terribly unlucky and unfortunate appearance the night before.

Low A  Augusta Greenjackets pounded the Asheville Tourists 11-5:

Johneshwy Fargas(CF)- 2 for 5, 2B, BB, CS(8).  BA= .310.
Cristian Paulino(2B)- 2 for 4, 2 HR(3), HBP.  BA= .316.
Skyler Ewing(1B)- 2 for 5, 2B.  BA= .193.
Matt Gage(LHP)- 6 IP, 8 H, 3 R, 1 BB, 7 K's.  ERA= 3.65.

Fargas and Paulino seem to be emerging as 5-tool talents who can play.  Paulino has played several positions including both IF and OF in his pro career.  Fargas' 8 CS is against 22 SB's so far.  22/30 is right about 70% which is not terrible, but will he be able to steal bases at higher levels?

  1. We may find out how Coello's stuff plays at the bigs, just won't be the Giants as he opted out of his contract

  2. Definitely excited about Fargas's development. I know you say he's an "emerging" 5-tool guy, but just curious, what gives you the impression that he'll ever develop any power? I'm not sure that 1 HR qualifies as "emerging".

    1. So, you really think I make those types of judgements based on "1 HR"? I am saying Fargas is a 5 tool talent based on scouting reports and my own observations of his frame and swing in scouting videos.

  3. Doc,
Every time I check your blog, one of the first things I'm looking for is Adrianza's batting line. In your opinion, is he turning himself into a legit trade piece? I know early in his career, he was touted as an elite fielder at SS, but I'm not positive that is still the case (perhaps he's just a plus fielder)? Any news or articles on what his trade value might be? He seems infinitely blocked at the big league level with some upside, some development projection and is already playing at what I think would be a passable big league level.

    Thoughts?

    1. I don't know if Adrianza is in demand for trade, but I am quite sure he would be an upgrade on several currently starting SS's in MLB.
