Game Wrap 5/6/2015: Padres 9 Giants 1

After 3 consecutive shutouts, the Giants were due for a letdown game.  The Padres brought their hitting shoes and well, it wasn't much of a contest.  Key Lines:

Brandon Belt- 2 for 3, 2B, 3B, BB.  BA= .261.  Belt seems to have come out of his funk and is starting to rake.  Stay hot, Brandon!

Matt Duffy- 2 for 3.  BA= .263.  Second consecutive 2-hit game for the Duffman.  He seems to move around better at 3B than Casey McGehee too.  I Duffy in the process of winning the starting 3B job?

Chris Heston- 5 IP, 11 H, 5 R, 3 BB, 4 K's.  ERA= 3.38.  Hesto Presto did not seem to have as much sink on his ball and 3 BB's in 5 IP is a lot for him.  Not his best outing by a longshot.

The Loss dropped the Giants back into 3'rd place in the NL West but they stayed 3.5 game behind the Dodgers who lost to the BrewCrew.  The Padres are 3 games back in 2'nd place.  Meanwhile the D'Backs swept a twin bill from the Rockies 13-7 and 5, and the Rockies are in free fall.

The Miami Marlins come to town starting a 4 game series that will carry over the weekend with Tim Hudson starting game 1 tomorrow evening against Dan Haren.

  1. the guys in the booth noted that heston has a lot to work on re his other pitches, if he wants to be in the win column when his sinker fails him

nice to see a bit of pop back in belt's bat

interesting that duffy played today...maybe they will send casey to the dl when travis is activated...i cant see the org giving up on casey this early, and i still believe that he is not playing at even close to 100 percent...but right now, they cant afford to have an automatic out or an e machine at either corner...

marlins are playing much better ball now then they did at the start of the season...should be an interesting series...and will be nice to see morse get his ring on the field

    1. I didn't hear what the guys in the booth actually said, so I'll take your word for it, but they weren't saying that in Heston's last game. How many MLB pitchers whose sinker is their #1 don't get lit up when it doesn't sink?

    2. The org isn't giving up on Casey, and to Boch's credit (Sabean as well, obviously), they're not listening to the ridiculous chorus of knee jerk fans and giving him every opportunity to get back on track. My take is that Casey is trying to play through knee pain, and wants badly to be a part of his home team and contribute out there. Must be a tough thing to deal with, when your body won't let you do what you've always done, and fans start ripping into you with the hate. What I saw before the knee issue popped up is some very solid 3B play, and a very nice bat.

As for the question of when McGehee will be back, I doubt Bochy will embarrass him in front of his former team and will have him back out there today.

Meanwhile, Duffman got some needed play time to continue to get comfortable in whatever role the Gigantes see for him. Judging by a couple of articles I read yesterday, he's getting there.

    3. I agree that Casey has more rope, probably a lot of it, but every time Duffy plays well at the position, the temptation grows to just leave him out there. It's happened before.

  2. Baggarly has comments and quotes on how Susan and Heston were late to adjust to Padres' adjustments.
