Down on the Farm: 5/15/2015

AAA  Sacramento River Cats edged out the Las Vegas 51's 2-1:

Brett Jackson(RF)- 1 for 3, BB, SB(2).  BA= .288.
Trevor Brown(Catcher)- 1 for 4, HR(1).  BA= .185.
Robert Coello(RHP)- 6 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 6 K's.  ERA= 3.47.
Erik Cordier(RHP)- 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K's.  ERA= 2.00.
Steven Matz(LHP, 51's)- 7.2 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 2 BB, 9 K's.  ERA= 1.80.

Coello has pitched well enough in the PCL to gain consideration if a future emergency starter is needed.  Isn't Cordier up against a rehab deadline in the near future?  Matz is a top LHP prospect for the Mets with some observers thinking he might get called up ahead of Syndergaard.

AA  Richmond Flying Squirrels pounded the Bowie Baysox 8-4:

Kelby Tomlinson(2B)- 2 for 4, 2B, BB, SB(7).  BA= .293.
Mac Williamson(RF)- 2 for 4, BB.  BA= .295.
Ricky Oropesa(1B)- 2 for 3, HBP.  BA= .255.
Myles Schroder(CF-1B)- 3 for 5.  BA= .259.
Jackson Williams(Catcher)- 3 for 5.  BA= .177.
Rando Moreno(SS)- 1 for 3, BB.  BA= .294.

Moreno is doing surprisingly well in AA after a disastrous 2014.

High A  Visalia Rawhide whipped the San Jose Giants 6-4:

Martin Agosta(RHP)- 4.1 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 2 BB, 4 K's.  ERA= 4.50.
Mason McVay(LHP)- 2 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 2 K's.  ERA= 4.15.

Agosta got the start here.  He seems to pitch better out of the pen.

Low A  Hickory Crawdads defeated the Augusta Greenjackets 7-2:

Seth Harrison(CF)- 1 for 3, 3B, BB.  BA= .269.
John Riley(1B)- 2 for 4, 2B.  BA= .255.
Sam Coonrod(RHP)- 5 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 2 BB, 5 K's.  ERA= 4.50.

  1. Yeah, Cordiers time up very soon, will have to go thru waivers unless Giants make 25man move instead, Machi?

  2. I have read your article before about him and you wrote that he throws a mid-90s fastball almost exclusively because his forkball is inconsistent in terms of throwing it for strikes. Do you think he still has a chance to be a useable pitcher in the Majors right now or he's just a AAAA-level pitcher like what I think he is? The only guys that I know that get hitters out with just fastballs are Bartolo Colon and Mariano Rivera and he's not quite the same as those two.

    1. Well, the Giants forte seems to be teaching the cutter, so maybe Coello is working on that? If he could add a cutter to the FB and forkball/change, he might have an arsenal that would play in the majors.
