Game Wrap 5/13/2015: Astros 5 Giants 4

The Giants stranded too many runners and gave up 3 dingers as the Astros staved off a Giants sweep in Houston.  Key Lines:

Matt Duffy- 1 for 4, BB, SB(1).  BA= .297.  Not a bad game by Duffy, but he couldn't deliver in another bases-loaded situation.

Angel Pagan- 2 for 5, 3B.  BA= .336.  Pagan added a nice catch in CF.  Routine Pagan game.

Buster Posey- 3 for 5, HR(5).  BA= .291.  Buster drove in all 3 Giants runs.

Brandon Crawford- 2 for 3, 2B, HBP.  BA= .264.  Crawford's double to lead off the ninth looked like it might lead to at least a tie game, but alas, the Astros used some smart defensive positioning to throw him out at 3B on a bouncer to his left by Aoki.

Tim Hudson- 5.1 IP, 6 H, 3 R, 2 BB, 4 K's, GO/AO= 6/0, 2 HR Allowed.   ERA= 4.57.  The longball hurt Huddy tonight.

The Loss left the Giants still 5 games behind the NL West leading Dodgers who finally lost to the Marlins 5-4.  Other NL West games still in progress.

The Giants now travel to Cincinnati where Tim Lincecum will face Johnny Cueto in the first game of a 4 game series.

The Giants have signed a couple of pitchers whose careers went off the tracks due to injuries, Ricky Romero and Tommy Hanson, to minor league deals.  Hope the Giants pitching mavens can work their magic on one or both.  They are no-risk signings as long as they don't block the promotion of a legitimate prospect.

  1. That was a painful loss last night. Made even more painful by stranding 6 of 8 runners in scoring position.

  2. Yep we should have won this one. Sure thought that Belt would have gotten his 1st HR of the season during this brief series too so kind of disappointed there too.
