Down on the Farm: 5/29/2015

AAA  Colorado Springs Skysox defeated the Sacramento River Cats 8-3:

Casey McGehee(3B)- 1 for 3, 2B, BB, 2 Errors.  BA= .188.
Jarrett Parker(RF)- 2 for 3, BB, SB(10).  BA= .282.
Juan Perez(CF)- 2 for 4, 2B.  BA= .225.
John Bowker(1B)- 1 for 4, HR(3).  BA= .252.
Ty Blach(LHP)- 6 IP, 11 H, 7 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 2 K's, GO/AO= 10/3.  ERA= 3.82.

11 hits is a lot to give up, but it seems like maybe Blach should have had 13 GB outs instead of 10?

AA  Richmond Flying Squirrels topped the Reading Fightin' Phils 5-2:

Kelby Tomlinson(2B)- 2 for 4, 2B, BB, 2 SB(12).  BA= .331.
Ricky Oropesa(1B)- 2 for 5, HR(7).  BA= .275.
Mitch Delfino(3B)- 3 for 4.  BA= .259.
Chris Stratton(RHP)- 8 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 1 BB, 5 K's.  ERA= 4.14.
Josh Osich(LHP)- 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 1 K, Save(10).  ERA= 1.64.

This is the deepest Stratton has gone in a game since 8/2/2013.  What is a Phil or a Phillie?  I've never quite figured that one out.

High A  High Desert Mavericks overran the San Jose Giants 10-5:

Hunter Cole(RF)- 1 for 4, HR(3).  BA= .336.
Brian Ragira(1B)- 4 for 4, 2B.  BA= .205.
Martin Agosta(RHP)- 4.2 IP, 14 H, 9 R, 7 ER, 0 BB, 5 K's.  ERA= 5.55.

Hopefully this is the start of some good hitting for Brian Ragira.  In Agosta's 2 worst starts of the season, he has a 12/0 total K/BB.

Low A Augusta Greenjackets beat the Asheville Tourists 5-1:

Johneshwy Fargas(CF)- 2 for 4, BB, 2 SB(21).  BA= .306.
Will Callaway(2B)- 2 for 4, 2B.  BA= .266.
Matt Pare(Catcher)- 1 for 4, HR(1).  BA= .167.
Jose Reyes(RHP)- 5.1 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 4 BB, 4 K's.  ERA= 1.36.
Raymundo Montero(RHP)- 3.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 5 K's.  ERA= 1.44.

Between Raymundo Montero, Reyes Maronta and Rodolfo Martinez all pitching out of the Greenjackets bullpen, it gets hard to tell the players without a program!

Notes:

Erik Cordier opted for free agency after passing through waivers, but then signed a deal with the Giants.  The reason why he refused assignment and went the FA route is he was able to add in some opt out language to the FA contract.  Kevin Correia has an opt out due on June 1.  Casey McGehee has an opt out due on June 5.

The Giants signed OF Engel Beltre and IF Jeff Kobernus to minor league deals.  Not sure where they are going to put them as all positions at all levels seem to be quite crowded.

DSL season starts today. It's always a challenge to get the all highlights documented after the short season leagues kick in.

San Jose Giants start a 3 game series in San Bernardino tonight against the Inland Empire 66'ers.  I am planning to go out there tonight to see Tyler Beede pitch.  I plan to wear my Matt Cain #43 shirt if anyone else happens to be there and wants to stop by and say hi.

  1. I hope you can provide us a lot of insights about Beede as well as other notable players for us who can't go to the game, DrB. Hope the SJ Giants win the game and you'll have a great time! (I'll just look at the game on MiLB.com)

  2. It was good to see Strat get his first win last night. He should've had a couple more under his belt already, but early on he just didn't have any support. Last night he got support at the plate and in the field. Devin Harris (LF) and Kelby Tomlinson (2nd base) made some impressive defensive plays that don't show up in the box score. And by the way, Strat helped his own cause with two base hits.

After an atrocious start, the Squirrels now find themselves in third place in the western division of the EL, and only a half game out of second place. They're riding a 6 game winning streak.

It was great to see Mitch Delfino get untracked a bit last night going 3-4. It seems that moving him down in the line up has helped.

Delfino, Stratton, Harris, Oropesa, and Tomlinson all had a multiple hit game last night.

Tomlinson leads the team in multiple hit games and has 7 in the last 10. He just continues to do Kelby. He's leading the team in BA.(391) and is 4th in the EL; Triples (2); OBP (.389); and stolen bases (12).

This is an exciting team to watch!
