AA  Richmond Flying Squirrels defeated the Bowie Baysox 6-1:

This was Ricky's 5'th dinger in the month of May so far.  Cricky had his deepest start since 8/29/2013 which was his only other start since 2012 longer than 6.0 innings.

High A  San Jose Giants beat the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes 6-2:

Hunter Cole(DH)- 2 for 4.  BA= .350.
Austin Slater(2B)- 3 for 4.  BA= .323.

Dan Slania(RHP)- 1.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 1 K, Save(10).  ERA= 2.14.

Nik Turley was a spring training invitee on a minor league deal.  He had one start early April for Sacramento before an extended stay on the DL.  He was plagued by arm stiffness last year in the Yankees organization.

Low A  Greenville Drive topped the Augusta Greenjackets 5-3:

Johneshwy Fargas(CF)- 2 for 5, SB(17.  BA= .313.
Cristian Paulino(RF)- 1 for 4, HR(1).  BA= .312.
Rodolfo Martinez(RHP)- 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K's.  ERA= 4.26.

Thanks to David Lee via Covechatter for reporting that Martinez hit 101 MPH on the radar gun.  Martinez also seems to be slowly getting his walk rate down.  This was his 3'rd consecutive appearance without a BB.  He has 2 BB's against 8 K's in 7 IP over his last 6 appearances.

  1. Dr. B:

Have you heard anything about Christian Arroyo as to when he might be coming back from the oblique injury? Thanks.

  2. San Jose is reporting that Ryan Lollis (OF 2nd highest BA in Cal League at .345) got promoted to RVA after yesterday's game. What kind of moves do you suppose the Giants will make to create room for him? Does Carbonell go down? Does Mac get moved up? Could be interesting.

    1. Ryan Lollis is an organizational player who goes where he is needed. We'll see who he replaces in Richmond, but Carbonell going to extended spring training for awhile then to Salem Keiser would be a decent bet.

    2. Wow, you really think there's a chance Carbonell goes back to salem?

    3. They moved Javier Herrera to the DL (sore elbow).

  3. What do you think of Blackburn's true ceiling in the Majors, DrB? Is he a true back-end starter or can he outperform the consensus once again to be a mid-end starter?

    1. Ceiling? Probably a #3 starter. Most likely outcome? Probably fringy #4-5.

    2. While that may SOUND like a drop based on his recent prospect list positions, we have to remember that he was a 16th rounder. AMAZING find at that positions.

  4. Williamson hitting .316 in AA is a pretty decent. Still a ways to go, but it's a hopeful sign.

    1. Oh, I think it is a very hopeful sign! Don't worry about the power. It will come. The first order of business for any hitting prospect in the EL is to hit for average. You do that, and you are a legitimate prospect.
