Down on the Farm: 5/23/2015

AAA  Memphis Redbirds defeated the Sacramento River Cats 6-4:

Ehire Adrianza(SS)- 3 for 5.  BA= .350.
Adam Duvall(3B)- 2 for 4, SF.  BA= 325.
Travis Ishikawa(1B)- 2 for 5, 2B.  BA= .310.
Jarrett Parker(LF)- 2 for 4, 2B, BB.  BA= .263.

Parker is hitting .293 over his last 10 games.  He continues to be a fairly extreme 3 true outcomes player, sporting an OBP of .371 with a 15% BB rate and a 34% K rate.  That approach is definitely not where the Giants as an organization are going as they are all about contact right now, and who's to argue?  Parker might get more of an opportunity in an organization like the A's or Astros or Padres.

AA  Bowie Baysox edged out the Richmond Flying Squirrels 3-2:

Kelby Tomlinson(2B)- 2 for 5.  BA= .315.
Rando Moreno(SS)- 1 for 3, 2 Sac.  BA= .321.
Ricky Oropesa(1B)- 1 for 4, HR(5).  BA= .267.
Myles Schroder(CF)- 2 for 4, SB(4).  BA= .259.
Jackson Williams(Catcher)- 2 for 3, BB.  BA= .194.
Chris Stratton(RHP)- 6 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 1 BB, 6 K's.  ERA= 4.50.

This may have been Stratton's best start of the season.  He actually pitched a shutout for 6 IP, then put 2 runners on to start the 7'th and they both scored after he left the game.

High A  San Jose Giants destroyed the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes 11-0:

Seth Harrison(CF)- 3 for 5, 2B.  BA= .600.
Hunter Cole(RF)- 2 for 5, 2B, HR(1).  BA= .348.
Austin Slater(2B)- 2 for 4, 2B.  BA= .311.
Dylan Davis(LF)- 2 for 4, SF.  BA= .234.
Ben Turner(Catcher)- 2 for 4, BB.  BA= .230.
Tyler Beede(RHP)- 6 IP, 6 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 3 K's.  ERA= 2.58.
Luis Ysla(LHP)- 2 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 3 K's.  ERA= 10.29.

Seth Harrison gets the promo from Augusta.  Jesus Galindo DH'd this game.  If the Giants goal for the season was to improve Beede's command, it would appear their strategy is working.  He has given up just 2 BB's in his last 24 IP, over 4 starts.

Low A  Augusta Greenjackets blanked the Asheville Tourists 2-0:

Jonah Arenado(3B)- 2 for 4, HR(6).  BA= .274.
Jose Reyes(RHP)- 6 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 3 K's.  ERA= 1.32.

Yoan Moncada Watch:  Moncada pulled a hammy last night legging out a triple for the Greenville Drive.  No word on severity or if he'll miss playing time.

  1. Jose Reyes continues to miss bats in Augusta. Regardless of his age, I'm still very impressed with his early transformation this year.

  2. Tyler Beede continues to pitch well. I'm thinking if he continues to develop that 2 seam fastball and cutter to go along with with his power stuff, the Giants are going to have a good young pitcher on their hands. I'm crossing my fingers.

  3. Forgot to mention in a recent BA article, Beede was quoted as saying, "this organization doesn't like to walk guys", which made me wonder if there are indications that the Giants are emphasizing pitching to contact in their minor league system.

    1. I think it is very clear the Giants are emphasizing pitch-to-contact in the minor league system. Credit for Beede for embracing it and making it work so far. Wonder how long before we start seeing articles about it on various sites and what kind of opinions will be offered? Hey, if anyone happens to catch Kiley McDaniel on Fangraphs during a chat, ask him what he thinks of the Giants approach to developing Beede.
