Down on the Farm: 4/17/2012

AAA Fresno Grizzlies defeated the Reno Aces 4-2:

Francisco Peguero(RF)- 2 for 4, 3B. BA= .196.
Conor Gillaspie(1B)- 2 for 4. BA- .250.
Roger Kieschnick(LF)- 2 for 4, 2 2B. BA= .404.
Jackson Williams(C)- 2 for 3, HR(1). BA= .167.
Eric Hacker(RHP)- 6 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K's. ERA= 2.00.

Nice game for Frankie Pegs. Can he get it going? Roger K stays hot. Can he stay healthy? Former Giant Joe Martinez pitched well for the Aces.

AA Reading Phillies crushed the Richmond Flying Squirrels 19-6:

Wow! Really nothing to see here!

High A San Jose Giants blanked the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes 4-0 for their 8'th win in a row:

Andrew Susac(C)- 3 for 4. BA= .243.
Adam Duvall(3B)- 2 for 4, 3B. BA= .235.
Taylor Rogers(RHP)- 6 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 5 K's. ERA= 1.62.
Seth Rosin(RHP)- 1.1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K's, Save(2). ERA= 0.00.

Susac is recovering nicely from a slow start to the season. Rogers is looking better than he did in Augusta last year. Rosin looks like he is on the closer track.

Low A Charleston River Dogs downed the Augusta Greenjackets 7-3 in 11 innings:

Clayton Blackburn(RHP)- 6 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 1 BB, 6 K's, GO/AO= 10/1. ERA= 3.77.
Cody Hall(RHP)- 2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K's. ERA= 0.00.

Very solid QS from Blackburn. Hall has been lights out so far.

  1. i think there is always one game during the season that is totally out of the norm in the eastern....i believe today's was it

and i know you dont care about records, but the grizz are now 10-3...best start in franchise history...giving the fans something to root for...and the central valley really needs something to root for...they have really been kicked in the butt by the economy

however, that may turn around, as it looks like there are some huge oil firms who are getting serious about fracking....which will bring jobs...although it may also destroy the ground water and put all of the farmers out of biz...we live in a wacky world

  2. You have to report what happened in every game, not just say 'Wow! Really nothing to see here!' It was a 19-6 game, clearly there was a lot to see. You can't selectively post, you have to tell the story of the game, you told no story. That's weak sauce! If you don't want to write about a game, then you shouldn't post, do your job and tell the whole story.

    1. Are you kidding me? Demand you money back, stat!

Here's a nugget from the game: Gary Brown walked twice. Bam!

Anyone is welcome to fill in the details.

    5. It is bush league to complain about DrB's reporting. He does a great job at giving us the lowdown on everything.

You may not understand, but it takes a lot of time and investment to get a blog done, and he does both minor and major league results every day. I know I burned out doing it series by series, so I totally respect DrB for doing what he does.

And if he thinks that nothing happened that was worth mentioning, I believe him, he does a great job of analysis and reporting.

If you really think there was anything worth mentioning, then please, go ahead and do it instead of complaining. If you don't like that, DrB will refund your money - and that's ZERO - and you can move on to MCC or MLB.com and get your news there instead.

  3. DrB. keeps encouraging anonymous posters to get a name, but nothing was convincing as this post. I don't want to be compared to this guy.

  4. Anonymous, that's a very Yogi comment there.

    Nicely done.

  5. What are Kieschnick's health issues?

Are they freakish like Bogut's or something one can see re-occur again and again, or just linger?

  7. The SJ bullpen has been crazy good. Look at their stats

  8. Rosin has been moved to closer and has been lights out. 9 K's in 5.1 innings with a 0.00 ERA. He should be flying with the Squirrels at least. He can be a big league bullpen guy very quickly. Mid 90s+ fastball and a dirty slider that obviously has improved with Kline's help. Keep him moving !!!

  9. This is a great site. I started the thread about reporting the whole story because there is always something to see in a stat line, no matter if the game is good or bad. You do more complete posting than any other site,it was just a shame to see you not go the distance. FYI to all the haters if you just look at scoreboard or the o-fer line then ur not rewal fans, true fans see how outs were made and run were scored. You should always get the full picture.

    1. No, it was I who started it! And I am still behind my words. DrB. should work harder to meet my standards!

    2. There is something to learn about every player from every stat line in every boxscore. That does not mean that I am going to post it on here. I post lines that I think demonstrate something that gives insight into how a prospect is progressing, mostly good, occasionally bad. There was nothing in the Richmond boxscore that met my criteria. Thanks to the readers who went ahead and posted a few lines. I think that proves my point, actually.

BTW, if you think I've missed something in my summaries, there is no rule against you posting it and commenting yourself. I encourage readers to post their own insights in the comments.

  10. I just know I am grateful I found this blog, and I appreciate the work Doc B puts in. I check the blog first thing EVERY morning. No complaints here. Except I disagre with you Doc on the handling of Belt.

  12. To quote an old Borsht comedian from the 60's, whose name escapes me right now, in response to an insult: Hey, I resemble that!

    Yes, nicely done, very Yogi-ish.
