AAA Fresno Grizzlies topped the Tacoma Rainiers 7-1:
Justin Christian(CF)- 3 for 4, 2 2B. BA= .553.
Travis Blackley(LHP)- 5.1 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 BB, 6 K's. ERA= 0.96.
George Kontos(RHP)- 1.2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K's. ERA= 0.00.
6 multi-hit games out of 7 for Christian. I would think Kontos is in the mix for a future callup if more injuries strike the bullpen.
AA Richmond Flying Squirrels topped the Altoona Curve 3-1:
Justin Fitzgerald(RHP)- 5 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 5 K's. ERA= 3.68.
Brett Bochy(RHP)- 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K, Save(1). ERA= 0.00.
High A
Game 1 San Jose Giants edged the Bakersfield Blaze 2-1:
Andrew Susac(C)- 2 for 3. BA= .200.
Jack Snodgrass(LHP)- 6 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 BB, 5 K's, GO/AO= 8/3. ERA= 3.48.
Seth Rosin(RHP)- 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 0 K's. ERA= 0.00.
Game 2 San Jose Giants defeated the Bakersfield Blaze 2-1 in 8 innings:
Ryan Lollis(LF)- 2 for 4, 2B. BA= .375.
Adam Duvall(3B)- 1 for 4, HR(1). BA= .233.
Edward Concepcion(RHP)- 2 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 5 BB, 3 K's, 2 WP. ERA= 5.40.
Jose Valdez(RHP)- 4 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 1 K. ERA= 2.70.
Concepcion had some success last year as a reliever in Augusta. The wildness returned in this starting assignment.
Low A Savannah Sand Gnats downed the Augusta Greenjackets 6-1:
Kelby Tomlinson(SS)- 3 for 4, SB(4). BA= .341.
Joseph Biagini(RHP)- 4 IP, 5 H, 4 R, 0 BB, 3 K's, GO/AO= 9/0, 3 HR. ERA= 7.50.
Demondre Arnold(RHP)- 2 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 3 BB, 3 K's. ERA= 3.00.
I guess when Biagini elevates a pitch, it goes a long ways. Some sabermetricians would look at that line and say he was unlucky. I'm not so sure.

Richmond won 3-1 today.

DeleteDrb, thanks for the great work with the minor league updates. Wouldn't it be something if Brett Bochy makes it to the majors while his father is the manager? Brett got his 1st AA save today.
ReplyDeleteAugusta has some interesting prospects.. What about this kid Kelby Tomlinson(SS). I've gathered from articles that he's a good defensive SS, has good speed, and his college coach raved about his work ethic and beng a good teammate.. A nice 12th round pick.. Demondre Arnold (RHP) - by all reports he has a lot of talent but has ways to go yet..
LG
Arnold has some good stuff but is very wild. He needs to work on that K/BB ratio. We don't need a right handed Dirty Sanchez.
DeleteShank, come on give the kid a break he hasn't even got in any fights yet.
DeleteI love the guy - I adopted him in the MCC adopt a Giant draft - but you gotta be hard on talented guys. Needs to tighten up on control. Nice K's so far though!
DeleteMadBum in the House to 2018!!! Very savvy signing by Sabes with the club option years. Stats/comparables + gut say this guy is a long term keeper and something special ala Cain. And like Cain he is a horse, only younger. WS proven winner at 21. Upside is #1 ace and Hall of Fame.
ReplyDeleteI think this was the only way to keep the country boy in the City. MadBum had chaffed at at the Giants pre-arb offers the last two years. Now he has his payoff locked in and the Giants have a very good deal if he continues on his trajectory. Really liked how he pitched tough in Coors in his last start.
I wanted 8 years, got 7. Great move by Sabes & Co.
Great move for sure. Getting this done as a Matt Moore on Steroids deal is a nice move after paying full boat for Cain.

DeleteAlso this puts the Giants in a great position to negotiate with Timmy. First they get to see Timmy perform this year. They have protection if Timmy's stats/performance keeps slipping from great to very good. If he stays great then offer a 2/$25MM deal. If he settles at very good, then offer a 2/$22MM deal. If he wants to hold out, then trade him for prospects in 2013 while his value is still very high. I say Timmy wants short, then keep him short. I just don't see Timmy as a good risk for a long term contract.
