Down on the Farm: 4/20/2012

AAA  Fresno Grizzlies defeated the Reno Aces 5-2:

Justin Christian(CF)- 2 for 4, 2 2B.  BA= .475.
Conor Gillaspie(3B)- 2 for 4.  BA= .255.
Charlie Culberson(2B)- 1 for 4, HR(1).  BA= .274.
Todd Linden(1B)- 2 for 3, 3B, BB.  BA= .255.
Travis Blackley(LHP)- 7 IP, 6 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 3 K's, GO/AO= 12/3.

I'm kinda getting tired of listing Christian every day.  Dude needs to find MLB team to hook on with.  He would definitely be an asset to somebody.

AA Richmond Flying Squirrels smashed the Altoona Curve 15-7:

Gary Brown(CF)- 1 for 5, 3B, SF.  BA= .207.
Tommy Joseph(1B)- 2 for 5, HR(1).  BA= .250.
Daniel Mayora(3B)- 3 for 6, 2B.  BA= .377.
Juan Perez(RF)- 5 for 5, 2B, BB, 2 SB(3). BA= .317.
Ehire Adrianza(SS)- 2 for 4, 2 BB.  BA= .200.
Eliezer Zambrano(C)- 3 for 5, BB.  BA= .600.
Brett Bochy(RHP)- 2.1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K's.  ERA= 0.00.

I haven't been that impressed by Juan Perez in the past, but he is doing surprisingly well in the EL.  Could be playing himself into a future MLB role.  Bochy allowed an inherited runner to score to blow the Save, but ended up with the W.  In the immortal words of Brian Wilson, "I want HIS job!"

High A  Bakersfield Blaze edged the San Jose Giants 1-0:

Jack Snodgrass(LHP)- 6 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 4 K's, GO/AO= 11/3.
Josh Osich(LHP)- 1 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K.  ERA= 0.00.

Low A  Augusta Greenjackets topped the Greenville Drive 3-2:

Kelby Tomlinson(SS)- 2 for 4.  BA= .304.
Brett Krill(DH)- 2 for 4, 3B.  BA= .224.
Ben Thomas(1B)- 2 for 3.  BA= .241.
Bryce Bandilla(LHP)- 3 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 6 K's.  ERA= 1.29.
Demondre Arnold(RHP)- 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 4 BB, 1 K. ERA= 2.45.

Fla-Giant is reporting that Bandilla hit 100 mph on the gun and ranged from 98-100.  He pitched exclusively out of the stretch, probably in an effort to give him better control.  He threw almost all fastballs.  It appears that he may have taken Mejia's place in the starting rotation.

  1. The velocity and control from Bandilla are great! Giants targeting their power arms just like them power bats, we'll hit eventually.

Demondre Arnold must be a very cool customer for all these free passes he's giving out. I'm shocked he hasn't been shelled yet.

  2. It was reported on MLB that Snodgress retired 17 batters in a row in his start, FYI.

Seems like Osich has recovered well from the injury that ended his season last year, looks like the Giants got a steal there, again, back in the draft. Any chance he starts at some point, do you think, DrB?

    1. I called Snodgrass a sleeper for Sickels Minor League Ball profile on the Giants and was greeted with a big ho hum and crickets. Lefties get many more chances, that's my point on this one.

Osich has come out and said he wants to be in the pen, that he prefers the pen. If he can move fast, maybe that's for the best. I'm a bit bummed about that, but on the other hand, if he does fast track, we can stop shelling out 5MM for our lefties.

  4. Look forward to seeing more of these pitchers: Kickham, Hall, Marlowe, Bandilla, Rosin, Osich...

Could Bochy be a trade bait?

  5. Bandilla - a LHP who can throw that hard is definitely someone to keep an eye on.. I thought about another former Giants minor league LHP after reading this, Erik Threets who reportidly threw that hard.

Joseph -Nice to see him hit his 1st hr. I expected him to struggle more since he's young for that league.

Perez - I remember reading an article in BA last year that Felipe Alou was high on him.. He did say that Perez tends to hit too many fly balls to his liking though..
