The Giants took the second game of today's doubleheader behind the excellent pitching of Madison Bumgarner and home runs by Pablo Sandoval and Hector Sanchez as well as another 3 hit game from Nate Schierholtz. Key Lines:
Gregor Blanco- 2 for 5, 2B, SB(1). BA= .200. Blanco gets a start and gives a solid performance.
Pablo Sandoval- 2 for 4, HR(3), BB. BA= .333. Sandoval ties a record held by none other than Willie Mays with a 16 game hit streak to start a season.
Nate Schierholtz- 3 for 5, 3B. BA= .372. Nate was 6 for 10 in both games combined. He's had multiple hits in 5 of his last 10 games. He's driving the ball instead of just protecting the plate too.
Hector Sanchez- 1 for 4, HR(1), SF. BA= .280. Great to have a backup catcher who is an asset in the lineup.
Madison Bumgarner- 7 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 2 BB, 4 K's. ERA= 2.96. Still not as many K's as you'd like to see, but who's quibbling. Great game and great day for the Giants!
The doubleheader sweep gave the Giants their fourth consecutive series win after being swept in their opening series. Their record now stands at 9-7 two games above .500 for the first time this season. The Dodgers are leading their game 5-1. If they go on to win it, they will hold a 3.5 game lead on the Giants who take over sole possession of second place in the NL West. Colorado's game against Pittsburgh was rained out, so they will likely drop 4 games behind the Dodgers. Arizona leads their game against the Phillies 9-0, yeah that's right, the Phillies so they will keep pace with the Dodgers at 4 games behind. The Pathetic Padres are idle so will probably end up a full 8 games back in last place.
The Giants will move on to Cincinnati for a 3 game series with Matt Cain taking the mound for game one tomorrow evening.

ok...they played well
ReplyDeletebaby panda with his first dinger (of many to come)
big bro panda ties mays
bum with another smooth outing
they did it all down 2 players
im concerned about saturday...or is it friday
if they go with a farmhand (coin flip between hacker and blackley) someone has gotta go down...but no one deserves to. i think that person has to also be dropped from the 40...so it cant be otero, he wont clear waivers
fact is, none of the guys will be able to clear waivers
its a quandry
btw, if any of you get a chance, say hello to srabian on twitter...guy is doing a bangup job
in fact, the entire marketing dept is doing a hell of a job...minor league players are telling me that giants fans show up to their games....and i cant believe there are that many ex san franciscans all over the country....so the marketing dept has succeeded in creating a national brand....we are now the giants nation
hahahah "baby panda".. I like that!
DeleteWilson can go on the 60 day, so that's an easy problem to solve. I could be wrong, but I would think Brian Burres is first in line for an emergency start.
DeleteNot sure what's going on with Huff but maybe he can go on the 15 day DL to make room for the emergency starter?
giants nation is a terrible name. think up something else
DeleteTogether We're Everywhere!
DeleteMaybe Blanco will get another start soon.
ReplyDeleteBacci, I am guessing Wilson goes on the 60 day DL, I think this frees up 40 man space
ReplyDeleteI'm wondering if we'll see more of H Sanchez behind the plate and Posey at 1st base.. Another farmhand with limited AAA experience, maybe Sabean is right about AAA experience, but we're only 16 games in.. Nice that Belt hit a solid double in the 1st game.
ReplyDeleteThe Giants need to stick with Crawford as their SS, giving him an occasional breather.. I wasn't a believer before the season. He's too good a defender and should eventually learn to become a better hitter.. Players like Omar Vizquel and Larry Bowa were weak hitters early in their careers but they gradually got better..
That was an impressive homerun by Panda, he got all of it.. John Miller said it was 430 ft.. Great to see Nate start off very hot.. How many times do you see a player struggle in the spring start off hot in the regular season.. Thats baseball... Yup Friday is a quandry but at least they got a DH sweep out of it..
LG
It's nice that Baby Panda will start at least one game in Cincinnati.
DeleteWhat a great baseball day/evening for the Giants. Do hope all is well with Huff and his family.
ReplyDeleteThe Giants are getting better…..and younger, at the same time. Look at the Phillies and the Red Sox to see what can happen when your team begins to show age.
The Giants are absolutely heading in the right direction, getting younger, more athletic and better defensively. Still too many errors, but long after the dumb errors stop occurring, the spectacular plays will go on.
It is a great time to be a Giant fan!
The Gs have no 40 man problems, as they only have 38 players on the 40 man. And, Bacci, if they send someone (Otero) down, they don't lose him, they dlon't have to cut him from the 40 man, but he has to stay in the minors at least 10 days before he can be recalled

ReplyDeletekruk rant
well, if they can keep otero on the 40 and bring someone up to replace him for 10 days...thats fine
Thanks Bacci. I never listen to the morning show, so my Kruk experience is the saccharine-covered dandelion and sunshine festival he holds during games. I like Kruk. But I sure wish he spoke his mind a little more during games.
DeleteAnyway, Kruk sums my feelings up on the play.
As Shank has suggested, I'm wishing Huff's family the absolute best and hoping that everything is OK. But the timing of the whole MIA thing is just troubling.
