Down on the Farm: 4/25/2012

AAA  The PCL was idle yesterday.

AA  Reading Phillies won a pitching duel over the Richmond Flying Squirrels 1-0:

Squirrels offense managed just one hit in this one.
Chris Heston(RHP)- 7 IP, 6 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 7 K's, GO/AO= 8/0.  ERA= 1.13.
Trevor May(RHP, Reading)- 6 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 7 K's.  ERA= 2.35.

Dominant start for Heston in a losing cause.  He just seems to be getting better and better.  Ceiling is probably as a #4 or #5 starter at MLB level.  Trevor May is a highly rated prospect for the Phillies, so no surprise he would dominate the Squirrels lineup.

High A  San Jose vs High Desert postponed.

Low A  Kannapolis Intimidators defeated the Augusta Greenjackets 4-2:

Shawn Payne(LF)- 1 for 2, 2 BB, 2 SB(6).  BA= .343.
Edwin Escobar(LHP)- 6 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 2 BB, 2 K's.  ERA= 1.88.

Payne should probably be in San Jose.  Escobar is still one of the Giants younger pitching prospects.

Looks like Eric Hacker is getting the call for Friday's start.  I'm a bit surprised.  I thought it would be Burres.  Bochy is apparently keeping tabs on things down in Fresno and mentioned that Hacker is throwing well.  Emergency starters can be either inspiring or disastrous.  We'll see on Hacker.

  1. I bet it was a lot to do with how it lined up, Hacker's spot in the rotation was up.

We need a nice Orange Friday game after the last couple days of late meltdowns.

Chuckie Jones might have to get moved back out of Augusta in addition to Payne moving on up. His K rate is getting legendary.

  2. That is probably right. Burres is scheduled for tonight, Hacker for tomorrow. I don't know how much difference a one day delay makes, but it appears the Gs were more comfortable with keeping them both on schedule.
