AAA Fresno Grizzlies topped the Tacoma Rainiers 6-1:
Justin Christian(CF)- 3 for 5, 2B. BA= .516.
Joaquin Arias(SS)- 2 for 3, 2B, BB. BA= .344.
Todd Linden(RF)- 2 for 4, 3B. BA= .242.
Andrew Kown(RHP)- 6.1 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 1 BB, 2 K's. ERA= 1.59.
LInden's triple was the big blow driving in 3 runs. Christian has had 3 or more hits in 4 of his last 5 games.
AA Altoona Curve dominated Richmond Flying Squirrels 6-0:
Chris Heston(RHP)- 6 IP, 4 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 5 K's. ERA= 1.64.
HIgh A San Jose Giants rained out.
Low A Savannah Sand Gnats buried the Augusta Greenjackets 10-0:
Adalberto Mejia(LHP)- 2.1 IP, 5 H, 5 R, 4 BB, 0 K. ERA= 19.80.
Kevin Couture(RHP)- 2.1 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K's. ERA= 0.00.
Mejia may need to go back to camp and then the AZL for more seasoning. Couture missed last season after being drafted out of USC in 2010. This was already his 5'th appearance this year in which he has pitched 9 shutout innings.
Here's a quote that was put up on the TV broadcast of the Giants home opener:
"Home openers are always exciting whether they are at home or away."
Yogi Berra
I was rolling on the couch laughing at that one!

I hope they give mejia 2 more games. My man demondre Arnold is ready to roll if they need it. Arnold has to cut his bb's down but has shown some good stuff early.
ReplyDeleteGiants need to put away the radar gun and start moving pitchers who miss bats. Strikeouts per 9 innings is the most important stat to prove future value unless the guy walks just as many.
ReplyDeleteNot according to the Giants. Shackelford and Bean are both strikeout pitchers and they both got sent packing. Shack is in the mid 90's and Bean is low 90's with a magician's change. Both still young and Bean is only a second year pitcher who Henry Cotto says would be a top 10 hitting prospect in the organization if he was kept as an outfielder. More to this than meets the eye I think.
ReplyDeleteAgreed, something else is up here. No way they let Bean go this young with this much upside. Already signed with Florence Freedom for the summer and will get picked up by someone for sure. Shackelford also will pitch for Florence this summer, will be interesting to follow.
ReplyDeleteLooks like we got 1 Anons talking to each other here, or else one Anon is talking to himself.
ReplyDeleteI'm not going to lose any sleep over Shack and Bean until they prove the Giants wrong somewhere else. The Giants track record in these things is pretty unassailable.
Also, no team gets them all right. There is no way to 100% make all the right moves. Doesn't mean they are inept. I heard Bean didn't want to switch from pitching. I saw him live and he looked great to me but so do many others. Hard decisions all and I hope these guys move on and do well they are both young and talented. But I hope the guys we keep do a little better.
ReplyDeleteI heard Shack was released, but didn't hear that about Bean. Not sure if facts are right. Not sure that the Giants would release him at this stage of the game. If so I'm sure they had good reason and good luck to them. It's a hard road for most of these guys and many mistakes are made by all teams. If an organization can be right 51% of the time they are doing great.
ReplyDeleteI coach demondre for 6 years when he was in Atlanta and I knew then that he was going to be special GO GET'EM DRE
