Down on the Farm: 4/21/2012

AAA  Fresno Grizzlies crushed the Tacoma Rainiers 12-0:

Conor Gillaspie(1B)- 5 for 6, 2B.  BA= .311.
Joaquin Arias(SS)- 3 for 4, BB, HBP.  BA= .373.
Roger Kieschnick(LF)- 1 for 5, HR(4), BB.  BA= .388.
Charlie Culberson(2B)- 2 for 5, 2 2B, BB.  BA= .284.
Nick Noonan(3B)- 2 for 5, BB, SB(1).  BA= .333.
Todd Linden- 4 for 5, HR(1).  BA= .300.
Brian Burres(LHP)- 7 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 5 K's, GO/AO= 10/3.  ERA= 3.38.

Lots of good stuff here.  I'll let you decide what's the most interesting.

AA  Richmond Flying Squirrels were rained out in Altoona, PA.  Same weather front that threatens the Giants game tomorrow.

High A  Bakersfield Blaze defeated the San Jose Giants 4-1:

Not much to see here.  The Giants managed just 3 hits.  Seth Rosin struck out the side on one inning of work, but allowed a run.

Low A  Greenville Drive edged the Augusta Greenjackets 4-3:

Shawn Payne(LF)- 2 for 4, 2B, HR(1).  BA= .357.
Kyle Crick(RHP)- 4.1 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 4 BB, 5 K's, GO/AO= 7/0.  ERA= 3.09.

Payne probably needs to be playing in San Jose.  Crick has good looking numbers except the walks.  Plenty of time to work on that.

  1. Part of me thinks Arias should have been on the big squad and Theriot sent packing. Gotta think the Giants brass couldn't bring themselves to take Blanco, Arias, and Pill - three unproven guys, as that seems to be their style.

Arias' flexibility seems like a better fit than Theriot, especially with how hard lefties have been on Craw. We'll probably see him in the show sometime in the near future.

    1. Arias' plus D at SS and RH bat made him a better option to keep on the 25 man roster than Theriot, IMO.

    1. Rosin would definitely be in this mix. 97-98 in AFL / 95-96 this spring so far. He's averaging about 2 Ks per inning this spring. Fastball must be pretty good......

  4. Welcome back Shawn Payne. That's the way you come back from injury. I'm getting impatient to hear about Galindo. And Mr. Peggs needs to start mashing like all his buddies are in Fresno.

  6. Gillaspie is going to have a good year and force the Giants hand sooner than later.

  7. i like monell as a career backup...we are talking about a guy who should always be able to get a job in the majors

as the giants are stacked in this dept, right now im seeing monell as ending up as part of a deadline or offseason package...unlike the scout, i really dont see him working in a corner of position...maybe at first...but still, the guy, while solid, is always gonna be a backup

    every team needs role players...
