The Giants got hitting early and late and got their customary stifling pitching all game to dominate the Cincinnati Reds 6-0. Some key lines:
Andres Torres- 1 for 2, BB, PO/CS. The pickoff notwithstanding. Torres would seem to be locking up a reserve OF position.
Edgar Renteria- 1 for 3, HR(1). BA= .265. Rent is rounding into form here.
Aubrey Huff- 1 for 2, HR(3), BB. Huff won't hit .400, but if he can even split the difference between his 2008 and 2009, he'll be a solid addition to the offense. He started a nifty DP in the field today too!
John Bowker- 2 for 4. BA= .275. Maybe we shouldn't write of John-Boy quite yet?
Nate Schierholtz- 0 for 4. BA= .242. Maybe Nate needs a day off? Is he opening the door for Velez or Bowker to take the starting RF job?
Todd Wellemeyer- 5 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 3 K's. ERA= 1.20. Wellemeyer looks like he has the #5 starting pitcher job just about wrapped up. Pucetas will be the insurance down in Fresno.
Alex Hinshaw- 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 2 K's. Hinshaw hasn't allowed a run in 3.2 IP over 5 appearances. Does he have an option? I think he does.
Sergio Romo- 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 K's. ERA= 0.00!
Santiago Casilla- 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K. Man, I'm really digging what our bullpen is going to be this year, and I'm not even sure Casilla will get a spot!
