The Giants took advantage of 9 walks by Royals pitchers leading to 5 of their 6 runs. The pitching took care of the rest. Oh, and their 6'th run was also a gift in the form of a wild pitch/throwing error.
The Giants had just 5 hits in the game, but 4 of them were doubles.
Brady Singer RHP issued 5 of the Royals 9 walks. Prior to this game he had issued just 4 walks in 35.1 IP. 4 of those free passes were consecutive after Austin Wynns' 2-out double in the third inning and erased the Royals 2-0 lead.
Alex Wood LHP- 6 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 1 BB, 5 K's, GO/AO= 9/0. ERA= 4.11. The 2 runs Wood gave up in the third inning were BABIPy and definitely should have been just 1 run as the second run scored on a ball Wood deflected. Had he fielded it cleanly or if he had whiffed and the ball gone through to Donovan Walton at 2B, it would have been almost a sure out. After a rough stretch in May, Wood has a 2.45 ERA in 18.1 IP over 3 starts in June.

Logan Webb RHP tries to keep the winning streak alive tomorrow evening facing Kris Bubic LHP. Shhhh.....don't tell anybody but the former Stanford man is 0-3 with a 9.13 ERA.
In their last 17 games, the Giants are 10-7. Not remarkable but they have more than kept up, climbing from 5 GB to 3.
ReplyDeleteSomething interesting about those 17 games, when they made up 2 games, they managed 7 or fewer hits in 12 of them, but won half, including the last 3 with only 5 hits per game. They're also 2-1 in games with 6 hits.
Considering only the last 15 games, they are 10-5, picking up 4.5 games from their nadir at 7.5 GB.
With only 3 healthy SP's can this winning without hitting continue?
Can the 'pen continue their mostly remarkable effort?
Can the Giants win with some very suspect fielding from so many regulars (15 position players have negative B-R dWARs)?
Should the Giants bury Vosler (.294/.362/.569/.931) in Sacramento while more than a half dozen players bat below .250 and play regularly?
Can BB9 be taped together to bring something to the offense or is he officially an $18,400,000 bust?
Does Longoria bring any value much less his absurd sunk cost?
Isn't it incredible that the Giants can hang with the Big Spenders in their division with a third of their Payroll injured or non-productive?
Gabe Kapler is one big reason. He doesn’t always push the right buttons but is better than most. He also is probably the best leader of any MLB manager and I would bet that nobody is as well respected by his players. Aside from him I have no idea how this team still has a winning record.
DeleteAnother win with only 5 hits tonight!
