One day after playing one of their sloppiest and disappointing games of the season, the Giants played what might be their best games of the season in beating the Dodgers in the opening game of their 3-game weekend series.
Joc Pederson LF- 2 for 4, SB(2). BA= .265. Pederson started the Giants 2-run rally in the 2'nd inning with a leadoff single followed by a SB followed by scoring on Evan Longoria's double then Longo scoring on Brandon Crawford SS's single. Later, Pederson made Dave Roberts pay the price for an intentional walk of Wilmer Flores to get a L-L matchup. Joc delivered the 2-out, 2-run single to extend the Giants lead to 5-2.
Darin Ruf 1B- 3 for 4, 2 HR(5). BA= .226. Ruf drove in 3 runs with two solo HR's and an RBI single. Ruf's first HR came against Walker Buehler, a pretty tough RHP.
Evan Longoria 3B- 1 for 2, 2B. BA= .237. I thought I saw Longo in some discomfort after the double. He came out of the game with hammy "tightness". At this point in his career, it may be too much to ask for Longo to stay healthy for a full season or even most of a season. If he's going to be out for an extended period, the Giants might want to think about adding David Villar to the 40-man roster and giving him a good long look.
Jakob Junis RHP= 5 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 1 BB, 5 K's, GO/AO= 6/2. ERA= 2.63. Junis had a 6-2 lead and was cruising as he came out for the 6'th inning. He delivered a 1-1 pitch to Max Muncy and collapsed on the mound clutching his left hammy. He came out and word is it's a strain with an IL stint expected. That's not good!

Sammy Long LHP will open tomorrow's game 2 of the series facing Clayton Kershaw LHP.

Walker Buehler RHP was not sharp in this game for the Dodgers. He came out after four innings with elbow soreness. Dodgers have to be concerned about that since Buehler is already a TJ survivor.
Got to go to a second game in a row. This was a great game that erased the error filled loss to the Rockies from the day before. Notables:
ReplyDelete1) Electric playoff energy-giants fans were able to drown out the Dodger fans-I estimate at least 20% there were wearing Dodger blue. Warrior game going on simultaneously was fun-we went down into one of the food courts and watched the last 5 minutes.
2) So happy for Darrin Ruf's big night coming offf the loss of his father.
3) Joc able to rub it in the Dodger's noses-one of his hits were off a lefty Justin Bruihl. Dodgers did not think he could hit lefties. Add: Joc has changed his walk up song to Abba's "Dancing Queen." Hilarious!
I have a aggressive recomendation!
ReplyDeleteBring up Kyle Harrison!
We brought Bum up 1st time at age 19
Cainner at 20
Harrison will be 21 in August.
As Johnny Ringo said to Doc Holiday in Tombstone > " Just doo it lunger "!!
Richard in Winnipeg
Ha! You are not going to like this but I'm seeing that Anthony DeSclafani will have two rehab starts under his belt by the time Junis' rotation spot is needed again on June 21. I do think there is a good chance we see Harrison this season but probably not until later in the season.
