Down on the Farm: 5/182023

AAA:  Reno Aces pounded the Sacramento River Cats 11-3.

Luis Matos CF- 2 for 4, 2B.  BA= .222.
Matt Beaty 1B- 2 for 5, HR(3).  BA= .263.

Hopefully Matos finding some traction after a slow start in AAA.

AA:  Akron Rubber Ducks sank the Richmond Flying Squirrels 10-2.

Ismael Munguia RF- 2 for 3, SB(8).  BA= .300.
Marco Luciano SS- 1 for 3, 2B, BB.  BA= .250.
Wade Meckler CF- 1 for 4.  BA= .444.
Ryan Murphy RHP- 3 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 4 BB, 5 K's.  ERA= 5.74.
Randy Rodriguez RHP- 2.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 3 K's.  ERA= 3.05.

After a rough start to the season, Randy Rodriguez has really settled down and is justifying his addition to the 40-man roster after the 2021 season.

A+: Eugene Emeralds polished off the Hillsboro Hops 2-0.

Grant McCray CF- 2 for 4, HR(6).  BA= .212.
Damon Dues DH- 1 for 3, 2 SB(7).  BA= .275.
Carson Whisenhunt LHP- 4.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 3 BB, 8 K's.  ERA= 0.52.
Ben Madison RHP- 1.2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K's.  ERA= 6.19.
Hunter Dula RHP- 1 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K, Save(3).  ERA= 1.98.

Carson Whisenhunt is dominating although that is what you would hope for from a high college draft pich at this level.  He should continue to move up fast in the organization.

A:  Stockton Ports defeated the San Jose Giants 5-3.

Onil Perez C- 2 for 4, 2B.  BA= .351.
Alexander Suarez RF- 1 for 3, HR(1).  BA- .259.
Hayden Wynja LHP- 3 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 0 BB, 5 K's.  ERA= 5.21.

Looking for sleepers?  Look no further than Onil Perez and Hayden WynjaPerez is a young international prospect C who is having a breakout season.  Wynja is a 6' 9" LHP who was NDFA last summer.

  1. I have learned to not worry about the early struggles when moving a level. You're moving, you have to find a place to stay, your life has been completely disrupted, everything is unfamiliar... There's always an adjustment period. Plus, he has just 9 ABs....

  2. BTW, there is a nice article on Fangraphs aobut Lamonte Wade Jr and the tremendous start he's off to this season. Other than possibly regressing against LHP's they make a pretty good case that this is who he is and it's sustainable.

    1. He's hitting lefties well. I was waiting until the next time he was mentioned in one of your posts to point out that he's actually hitting lefties, and I was wondering if he finally figured something out as hitter and if this would be sustained unlike the very exciting two-months of 2020 that he failed to sustain for the rest 2021 and pretty much all of 2022. He's still in my 'juries out' column, but he's working himself into a more favorable view every week and I feel that if this continues to the All-Star break, he'll be in my 'good player book.'

But why I am here right his minute is Bart has a groin pull is probably going to the IL and Bailey has been called up. Bart has hit .185 over the past month and just .143 for the past two weeks. So while there are still questions about Bailey's bat (he's hitting .216 in AAA after his hot AA start (.333 in Richmond)), I honestly don't expect any significant drop in offense since Bart wasn't giving us much offense.

  3. Interesting that I remember Brandon Belt saying Lamont Wade will make an impact if he's healthy. Definitely a nice surprise. Great that Patrick Bailey gets the callup. That says something when coaches say Patrick Bailey was the best defensive catcher in camp. I remember Doc telling us about the reliever Ryan Walker who was called up to replace Stripling. He has a funky delivery who reportedly throws hard . He's having a great year in AAA so why not give him a look.

  4. Plain and simple: LMWJ is laying off pitches out of the strike zone.
At least pretty much, everyone gets fooled some.

  5. Folks seem surprised that Giants called up Patrick Bailey:
McCovey Chronicles: Wow!! Giants call up C Patrick Bailey
    Well, DUH!
Great defense as opposed to Sabol, still a maybe offensively but let's see. Start Sabol against RHP (Miami), bring in Bailey for D with a lead.

  6. Ryan Walker is coming up. Drafted in the 31st round of the 2018 MLB June Amateur Draft, he's kinda the LAST HURRAH of the previous admin. Sort of pooh-poohs those who think (?) that FZ doesn't want players he didn't acquire.
    Lord, help them.
