AAA: Las Vegas Aviators edged out the Sacramento River Cats 2-1.
Alex Wood LHP- 3.2 IP, 6 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 1 K. ERA= 2.45.
Keaton Winn RHP- 4.2 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 6 K's, GO/AO= 6/1. ERA= 4.70.
Mixed first rehab outing for Alex Wood. Keaton Winn turns in his strongest appearance of the season.
AA: Richmond Flying Squirrels defeated the Altoona Curve 4-1.
Luis Matos RF- 2 for 4, HR(2). BA= .289.
Carter Aldrete 3B- 3 for 4, 2B, HR(3). BA= .280.
Carson Seymour RHP- 4 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 1 BB, 1 K. ERA= 4.08.
Juan Sanchez LHP- 2 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K. ERA= 1.98.
Randy Rodriguez RHP- 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K, Save(1). ERA= 3.60.
Luis Matos continues to perform well at AA an historically difficult hurdle for Giants hitting prospects.
A+: Spokane Indians topped the Eugene Emeralds 2-1.
Carson Ragsdale RHP- 4 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 8 K's. ERA= 2.92.
I've liked Ragsdale since he was a draft prospect in college. Great to see him coming back strong from thoracic-outlet surgery.
A: San Jose Giants beat the Modesto Nuts 5-4.
Carter Howell DH- 1 for 3, 2 BB. BA= .327.
Onil Perez C- 2 for 2, 3 BB, SB(3). BA= .370.
Hayden Birdsong RHP- 4 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 6 K's. ERA= 1.83.
Jack Choate LHP- 3.2 IP, 2 H, 3 R, 0 ER, 4 BB, 6 K's. ERA= 1.29.
Onil Perez is another young international prospect who is excelling for the SJ Giants. Interesting prospect. Reminder that low A is a conservative placement for players drafted out of college the prior year.
Before getting promoted to Sacramento (from MiLB.com):
ReplyDeleteRichmond Flying Squirrels shortstop Tyler Fitzgerald has been named the Eastern League Player of the Month for April, Minor League Baseball announced on Thursday afternoon.
Fitzgerald, who was the Flying Squirrels’ Most Valuable Player in 2022, was promoted to Triple-A Sacramento on Tuesday.
For the month of April, Fitzgerald hit .324 (22-for-68) with two homers, six doubles, three triples and nine RBIs. He also worked nine walks, posting a .410 on-base percentage, and stole three bases.
Through the season’s first calendar month, Fitzgerald led the Eastern League in triples (3), ranked second in extra-base hits (11), third in batting average (.324), total bases (40), slugging percentage (.588) and was tied for third in runs scored (15). He also ranked fourth in OPS (.998) and tied for fourth in hits (22).
Fitzgerald, a native of Springfield, Ill., was selected by the San Francisco Giants in the fourth round of the 2019 MLB Draft out of the University of Louisville.
Last year, Fitzgerald became the first player in franchise history to record 20-for-more homers and stolen bases in a single season. He made his Triple-A debut for the River Cats on Wednesday and collected his first hit.
Fitzgerald has pretty much come from Nowheresville but seems to discover the Hit Tool in the last couple years, the last bit between a 4.5 and 5 toll guy in Doc's ratings. Plus he's a legitimate SS.
Just might add to the 2019 draft along with McCray, MacDonald, Waites, Wright, and Aldrete and we can quit lamenting Hunter Bishop.
Not trying to burst the Fitzgerald bubble as much as giving a reality check. Fitzgerald is 25 years old and was essentially repeating AA, so in a sense he was behind guys like Will Wilson, Brett Wisely, Isan Diaz. In AA last year he was at exactly 100 wRC+ and so not sure if you can say he discovered his hit tool.
DeleteHe also put up a 32.9 K% and even while doing well this year at AA, he was still putting up a 28.2 K%.
The thing Fitzgerald has going for him is that he can stick at SS. But his high K rate means he's gonna have to keep up the decent walk rate he had in AA. If everything works out well he MIGHT have a shot as the last spot on the 26 kind of player.
Not just that Richmond has been historically tough on our young hitters, I believe Matos is also younger than average there.
