The Giants had an early lead in this game, but could not hold it and the Mets bullpen outpitched the the Giants bullpen. Key Lines:
Hunter Pence RF- 1 for 4, HR(3). BA= .254. Pence got the Giants on the board in the first inning as he followed a walk by Brandon Belt with a 2-run dinger. Pence will have to provide some power if the Giants have any hope of breaking out of their funk.
Buster Posey C- 2 for 4, HR(3). BA= .363. You can't blame Buster Posey for the Giants skid with that BA, but a few more dingers would be welcome.
Christian Arroyo SS- 0 for 4, 4 K's. ERA= .236. Jake DeGrom had double digit K's. Arroyo will have his struggles against pitchers like that.
Matt Moore LHP- 5.1 IP, 7 H, 3 R, 1 BB, 5 K's. Moore was shaky in the first inning and threw a ton of pitches, but worked his way out of the jam and then settled down and pitched a decent game falling 2 outs short of a QS.

The Rockies were rained out, so the Giants lose 0.5 games and are 9.5 games out of first place in the NL West cellar.

Jeff Samardzija tries to stop the losing streak tomorrow evening with former Giants farmhand Zach Wheeler on the mound for the Mets.

For the second time this season, a promising young pitcher was diagnosed with testicular cancer, this time Jameson Taillon of the Pirates who underwent surgery today. Best wishes to Taillon for a full recovery. Once again, testicular cancer is relatively rare, but it is the most common type of cancer found in young men, so heads up guys! Be aware of what's going on down there and don't be in denial! If something doesn't seem, go ask a doctor about it and don't apologize if everything checks out OK. Just be happy for it.

Buster came up with no one on base every AB!
ReplyDeleteAnd this is probably the best lineup possible to get runners on base in front of him.
Only Tomlinson has a higher OBP than Pence, otherwise Panik, Belt, and Hunter (at .306) are the best the Giants have.
It goes down from there with Nunez and Crawford in the .280s, Hernandez and Arroyo in the .260s, and Span at .245!
Anyone in the system good at getting on base?
At Sacramento Moncrief is .403 (obp) but @ 28 yo he's never had a MLB at bat. Is it time? If not, why not? The Giant OF is a mess!
Slater, Jones, and Hwang have .330+ but whats the chance they'll be any better at the MLB level than Arroyo who was almost .500 in OBP for the River Cats. And 2 of them are IFers where the Giants don't need help.
Foolish to look below AAA but Shaw is doing quite well and so is Gomez -- 2 more IFers, not what the Giants need!
So here's my question, Doc, is there any OFer 30 or less, under contract, better than Pence that the Giants could trade for with an IFer? Any IFer.
MLB Central is reporting that the Giants are putting "feelers out" on Hunter Pence's trade value. Doesn't mean he is gonna be traded, but that is a telling statement from the Giants front office.
ReplyDeleteIn Sacramento last night, Ryder Jones played LF.
ReplyDeleteIs it certain that the Giants OF is any better than the River Cats, with Jones, Slater, and Williamson plus Carlos Moncrief?
The River Cats are 11-20, is that familiar? The Giants were 11-20 a couple games ago!
It is said that Yogi Berra spoke about uncertainties "It's tough to make predictions, especially about the future."
ReplyDeleteHad we only known, the Giants could have saved $60,000,000 and maybe the rest of us wouldn't be so disappointed.
