Game Wrap 5/2/2017: Dodgers 13 Giants 5

The Giants looked like they were building on a terrific May Day win.  Matt Moore retired the first 3 batters on 6 pitches in the first inning.  The Giants offense scored 4 times in the top of the second.  Then Moore got lit up like an oil refinery when the price of gas is falling.  6 runs!  In one inning!  Dodgers kept adding on for a route.  Key Lines:

Gorkys Hernandez CF-RF- 2 for 5.  BA= .180.  I've been as hard on Gorkys as anyone but he is hitting .333(10 for 30) since April 21.

Brandon Belt- 2 for 5, 2B.  BA= .255.  Belt's double drove in 2 runs in the 4-run second inning.

Christian Arroyo 3B- 2 for 4.  BA= .278.  Arroyo looks like he is here to stay.

Matt Moore LHP- 3.1 IP, 6 H, 9 R, 5 BB, 3 K's.  ERA= 6.75.  Moore said it was because his offspeed pitches were not competitive.  Bochy said it was because his fastball was moving too far over the plate. Maybe it was both?!  Moore has bee notoriously inconsistent in his career.  The Giants and Rags have been excellent at fixing struggling pitchers over the years.  Barring a hidden injury, there's a great chance Moore will find a groove, but man, this is not good!

With the Loss, the Giants remain in last place in the NL West, 7 games behind the Dangerous D'Backs who again jumped over the Rockies by 0.5 games with a 6-3 win over the Nationals.  The Rockies lost to the Pesky Padres 6-2 so the Padres are 2 games ahead of the Giants in 4'th place, 5 game behind the D'Backs.  The Dodgers are in 3'rd place, 2 games off the pace.

Jeff Samardzija, who is known to run hot and cold himself, faces Julio Urias tonight.

  1. Bullpen was not very good either. When Gearrin entered the game, it was 6-5, bases load with 1 out. A DP ball would have swung the momentum back to the Giants. Limiting the damage would have kept us in the game. But it was 10-5 at the end of the inning and the game was over. I don't blame him, but it was a lost opportunity.

Kontos was heroic two seasons ago with inherited runners. He made a big impact that did not really translate into his stats.

  2. Seems to be hit or miss with this team, with it favoring the miss at this point, seems to me the deficiencies are pretty much 'across the board '. What to do,what to do, maybe just go mad like King George III when he lost America :).
