Giants 2017 Depth Charts: Shortstop

The Giants shortstop position is in secure hands as Brandon Crawford ran up the 4 highest fWAR rating in MLB in 2017 and  is signed for the next 5 seasons.  He's backed up by Ehire Adrianza and Kelby Tomlinson.  After that, the system thins out a bit.

MLB:

Brandon Crawford, 30 yo- .275/.342/.430, fWAR= 5.8.  Crawford may be at the peak of his career or he may still be getting better.

Ehire Adrianza, 27 yo- .254/.299/.381.  Every time this guy appears to be getting some traction, he seems to get hurt.  Tough to see enough room on the roster for both Adrianza and Tomlinson unless they get 26 spots in the new CBA.  If they do, don't you think Bochy will just want another arm in the bullpen?

Kelby Tomlinson, 27 yo- .292/.370/.330.  Very little pop in the bat, but there is no tougher out on the roster.  Does he lose out to Adrianza in the options game?

AAA:  Empty.  Rando Moreno played about 1/3 of the season for Sacramento and hit well, is currently listed on the San Jose roster.

AA:

Christian Arroyo, 22 yo- .274/.316/.373.  Arroyo is probably the Giants 3B of the future, but could play SS if needed.

CJ Hinojosa, 22 yo- .248/.312/.336.  Struggled a bit after a promotion to Richmond after hitting .296 for San Jose.

HIGH A:

Rando Moreno, 25 yo- .299/.375/.381(AAA).  .215/.261/.271(AA).  .248/.317/.288(High A).  No pop.  Probably an organizational player who goes where he's needed.

LOW A:

Tyler Brown, 22 yo- played just 8 games for Augusta before being shut down for the season.

John Polonius, 26 yo-  Strictly an organizational player.

SHORT SEASON:

Ryan Howard, 22 yo- .272/.313/.371.  High contact hitter in the mold of Joe Panik and Matt Duffy.

ROOKIE AZL:

Brandon Van Horn, 23 yo- .231/.328/.300.  Slick fielder.  Needs to hit more.

DSL:  Jose Rivero, 19 yo- .253/.361/.308.  Has spent 2 seasons in the DSL.  Is this line enough to get him to Arizona?

The trade of Lucius Fox took a bite out of the organizational SS depth.  I would not be surprised to see one or 2 of Jalen Miller, Manuel Geraldo or Kelvin Beltre back to the position for 2017.
