Down on the Farm: 4/8/2016

AAA  Salt Lake City Bees again stung the Sacramento River Cats 6-4:

Andrew Susac C- 1 for 4, 2B.  BA= .286.
Mac Williamson LF- 2 for 4, 2B, HR(1).  BA= .250.
Grant Green 3B- 2 for 4, SB(1).  BA= .375.
Hak-Ju Lee SS- 2 for 4, 2B.  BA= .333.
Clayton Blacburn RHP- 5 IP, 8 H, 5 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 5 K's, GO/AO= 10/0.  ERA= 3.60.

Blackburn's peripherals look good here.  Mac took an 0'fer on Opening Day.  This is more like what we are expecting out of him.  Trevor Brown seems to be tightening his grip on the backup catcher gig.  Is Susac a candidate for a deadline trade?

AA  Hartford Yard Goats pounded the Richmond Flying Squirrels 8-3:

Christian Arroyo SS- 4 for 4, BB.  BA= .625.
Ricky Oropesa 1B- 2 for 5.  BA= .333.
Ryder Jones 3B- 2 for 5.  BA= .444.
Rando Moreno 2B- 2 for 4.  BA= .250.
Adalberto Mejia LHP- 5 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 BB, 7 K's.  ERA= 1.80.

Arroyo continues his hot hitting reaching base all 5 PA's.  He made 2 errors though.  Ryder Jones made his 3'rd error of the season.  Strong start to the season for Mejia.

High A  Lancaster Jethawks vs San Jose Giants game suspended after 4 innings with the Jethawks leading 4-1:

Jose Vizcaino Jr 3B- 1 for 2, HR(1).  BA= .400.
Sam Coonrod RHP- 4 IP, 6 H, 4 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 7 K's.  ERA= 4.50.

Viz Jr is off to a hot start.  Coonrod continues an early trend of Giants minor league pitchers underperforming their peripherals.

Low A  Rome Braves beat the Augusta Greenjackets 6-1:

Dillon Dobson 1B- 1 for 4, HR(1).  BA= .143.
Phil Bickford RHP- 4.2 IP, 1 H, 3 R, 1 BB, 10 K's.  ERA= 5.79.
Ryan Halstead RHP- 1.1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K's.  ERA= 0.00.

Speaking of underperforming peripherals, Bickford took a no-hitter with 8 K's into the 5'th inning.  He struck out the first two batters in the 5'th but then a HBP, BB, double sequence knocked him out of the game.  Matthew Pope allowed the inherited runner to score…..3 runs allowed.  This team is going to struggle offensively with so many toolsy kids learning to hit pro pitching.

  1. Any chance Arroyo pushes the issue and gets called up sooner than later if he keeps this up? Maybe instead of Kelby?

    1. Sure, the Giants have a history of aggressively promoting their first round draft picks who are performing well. I don't think Arroyo will be called to sit on the bench, though. One of the starters will have to get injured to do a face plant.

    1. The wrist seems to be well enough for Susac to play for the River Cats. I think there is more to his being sent down than just the wrist injury.
