Down on the Farm: 4/21/2016

AAA  Sacramento River Cats defeated the Las Vegas 51's 3-1:

Gorkys Hernandez CF- 2 for 4, HR(1).  BA= .211.
Albert(Not Andrew) Suarez RHP- 6 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 1 BB, 5 K's.  ERA= 3.46.
Duke Welker RHP- 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 2 K's.  ERA= 0.00.

Albert Suarez is the dude who hung around major league camp in spring training getting lit up pretty much every time he went out to the mound.  Maybe the Giants saw something and got him straightened out?

AA Richmond Flying Squirrels topped the Altoona Curve 5-1:

Rando Moreno SS- 2 for 5, 2B.  BA= .383.
Christian Arroyo 3B- 2 for 5, 2B.  BA= .293.
Chase Johnson RHP- 5.1 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 2 BB, 2 K's, GO/AO= 12/1.  ERA= 4.05.
Christian Jones LHP- 2.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 K.  ERA= 8.10.
Ray Black RHP- 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K's.  ERA= 7.94.

Arroyo getting some reps at 3B.  Not many K's for Chase Johnson, but dominant GB tendency.

High A  San Jose Giants cracked the Modesto Nuts 5-2:

Chris Shaw 1B- 1 for 3, 2B, SF.  BA= .302.
Steven Duggar RF- 2 for 3, 2B, BB, SB(2).  BA= .364.
Brandon Bednar 2B- 3 for 4, SB(3).  BA= .268.
Andrew Suarez LHP- 7 IP, 6 H, 1 R, 0 BB, 9 K's, GO/AO= 8/3.  ERA= 3.38.

Andrew Suarez is the guy the Giants drafted in the second round out of Miami last year who we think will be a fast mover in the system.   Dominant start here.

Low A  Augusta Greenjackets beat the Charleston River Dogs 5-2:

Seth Harrison CF- 2 for 5, 3B.  BA= .244.
Dillon Dobson 1B- 2 for 5.  BA= .339.
Kelvin Beltre 3B- 2 for 3, HBP, SB(1).  BA= .229.
Logan Webb RHP- 6 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 1 BB, 4 K's.  ERA= 3.21.
Tyler Cyr RHP- 3 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 5 K's.  ERA= 1.35.

Cyr now has 22 K's against 4 BB's in 13.1 IP in 5 appearances.

  1. What was the story with Cyr? Dis any of his scouting reports or pre-draft acumen hint at this kind of potential dominance?

    Thanks.

    1. 10'th round draft pick in 2015. Here's what I wrote in my draft review: "Tyler Cyr, RHP. 6'3", 195 lbs. Embry-Riddle U. 7-5, 3.14, 86 IP, 50 BB, 98 K. Embry-Riddle is an NAIA school. Perennial conference champion. No scouting report. Stat line looks like a hard thrower with iffy command."

Seems like maybe the Giants have fixed the command issues and have a prospect.

    1. Mac needs AB's and he wasn't going to get them with the Giants in the short term future.

  3. Christian Arroyo if he keeps this up he probably be in AAA pretty soon.
