Down on the Farm: 4/16/2016

AAA  Salt Lake City Bees swarmed the Sacramento River Cats 10-5:

Conor Gillaspie 3B- 2 for 4.  BA= .324.

Nothing else to see here.

AA  Altoona Curve scored 3 runs in the top of the 9'th inning to shutout the Richmond Flying Squirrels 3-0:

Joan Gregorio RHP- 6 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 7 K's.  ERA= 0.00.
Ray Black RHP- 0.2 IP, 1 H, 3 R, 3 BB, 1 K.   ERA= 9.82.

Breakout season for Gregorio if he stays healthy.  He's allowed just the 2 hits in 10 IP with 13 K's and 4 BB's in 2 starts.  Black's control issues surface again.

  1. Start thinking about phasing out Lopez, Peavy, and Caine, and moving up youngsters. Also move BigMac to the bigs (left field), and put Angel back in center.

    1. Too early to judge on the pitchers, but I'm thinking Peavy and Lopez won't be back next year. Angel Pagan to CF instead of Span? You're kidding, right?

    2. Lopez and Peavy are in the final year of their contracts. I suspect Lopez, who is 38, will probably retire while Peavy will try to find a two-year deal somewhere.

And Pagan in CF? First, he's had FIVE bad seasons (DRS wise) as a defensive CF with last year being an abomination. Second, he's got a positive defensive rating (DRS wise) in LF even if he's made a couple of bad plays (a charged throwing error and a non-charged fielding error), one of which was a significant factor in a loss. Third, Span is playing a good CF. Not gold glove. But good.

  2. Gregorio is starting to get my attention based on reading your write up on him as #24 in your 50 list and his fast start this year. He also finished strong in 2015 as well. It sounds like if he stays healthy, he could be an interesting player to follow.
