Down on the Farm: 6/18/2015

AAA  Reno Aces trumped the Sacramento River Cats 6-4:

Nik Turley- 6.1 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 2 BB, 6 K's.  ERA= 8.34.

AA  Harrisburg Senators defeated the Richmond Flying Squirrels 7-6:

Kelby Tomlinson(2B)- 1 for 4, 3B, BB, SB(15).  BA= .335.
Daniel Carbonell(CF)- 1 for 4, 3B.  BA= .146.
Tyler Beede(Pitcher)- 1 for 2, 2B.  BA= .500.
Tyler Beede(RHP)- 4.2 IP, 3 H, 5 R, 4 ER, 3 BB, 3 K's, GO/AO= 4/5.  ERA= 3.06.
Stephen Johnson(RHP)- 2.1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 3 K's.  ERA= 4.15.

Looks like Young Beedah can swing the bat a bit too.  His GO/AO would suggest he was elevating his pitches in this game which probably explains the subpar outcome.

High A  Inland Empire beat the San Jose Giants 6-4:

Seth Harrison(CF)- 2 for 4, 2B, BB, SB(4).  BA= .278.
Ryder Jones(3B)- 2 for 3, 3B, BB.  BA= .291.
Ben Turner(1B)- 1 for 3, BB.  BA= .274.
Jake Smith(RHP)- 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K's.  ERA= 2.91.

Impressed by Ryder Jones apparent improved stamina this season.

Low A  Augusta Greenjackets outscored the Lexington Legends 11-6:

Johneshwy Fargas(CF)- 2 for 4, 2B, BB, SB(28).  BA= .298.
Cristian Paulino(RF)- 2 for 4, Sac.  BA= .299.
Aramis Garcia(Catcher)- 1 for 3, HR(7), 2 BB.  BA= .222.

Rodolfo Martinez(RHP)- 1 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 0 BB, 0 K.  ERA= 3.92.

Fargas stays hot.  Garcia has shown some power this season despite the low BA.  Martinez did not have a successful appearance, but did not issue a walk for the 10'th time in a row.

Short Season  Vancouver Canadians destroyed the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes 11-2:

Fernando Pujadas(Catcher)- 2 for 4, 2B, HR(1).  BA= .500.
Eric Sim(RHP)- 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K's.  ERA= 0.00.

Eric Sim is listed as a pitcher on the roster and was lights out in his first appearance.

DSL  Giants topped the Red Sox 6-1:

Juan Rodriguez(LF, 20 yo)- 3 for 5, 2B.  BA= .381.
Manuel Geraldo(SS, 18 yo)- 2 for 5.  BA= .286.

  1. I listened to the Squirrels radio broadcast as well as in Gameday in Beede's start and covered it on Twitter. Several hitters (I'll estimate to be like 40% of total hitters) have been in 3-0 and 2-1 counts and even though he retired 8 in a row before breaking in the 5th inning, he's behind a lot of hitters today. A handful of his pitches sailed up and in on a righty, the radio commentator backed up what Gameday is showing. He also have a lot of pitches elevated like what you said, DrB. I hope this helps explain further the subpar outing of Beede today. Though his dad recognizes his son's hitting as I have seen on his Twitter sccount.

  2. I am not certain of the dates of the signings, but apparently the Giants have already inked 6 of their first 9 picks.

Shaw and Miller signed almost immediately, and Marshall, Jebavy, Duggar and Taylor have all joined up as well. Good start.
