Down on the Farm: 2019 San Jose Giants Preview

Lots of excitement in SJ as both of the last 2 first round draft picks will suit up for the Giants with a few other interesting prospects to back them up.  Hey!  Remember Thomas Neal?  He's the SJ hitting coach this year.

Pitchers:  Raffi Vizcaino RHP, Trenton Toplikar RHP, Carlos Sano RHP, John Russell RHP, Frank Rubio RHP, Aaron Phillips RHP, Olbis Parra RHP, DJ Myers RHP, Jose Marte RHP, Joey Marciano LHP, John Gavin LHP, Camilo Doval RHP, Garrett Cave RHP, Caleb Baragar LHP.

Jose Marte is my pick for a breakout season while Aaron Phillips put up interesting numbers at a lower level last year.  Carlos Sano is an intriguing international prospect who signed in his 20's.  Camilo Doval put up fantastic numbers for Augusta in a relief role after a rough first few games.  He's been documented to work in the upper 90's.  Garrett Cave is one of several hard throwing Giants prospects who needs to find his command.

********************************************************************************

Catchers:  Joey Bart B-R, T-R, Chris Corbett B-R, T-R, John Riley B-R, T-R.   The big star here is Joey Bart with the only uncertainty being how long he plays in SJ before a promotion to Richmond or beyond.

*********************************************************************************

Infielders:  Orlando Garcia 2B B-R, T-R, Manuel Geraldo SS B-S, T-R, Ryan Kirby 1B B-L, T-R, Kyle McPherson 2B B-R, T-R, David Villar 3B B-R, T-R.

Ryan Kirby moves out of the mayor's office in Augusta to come to San Jose.  David Villar equaled Joey Bart's power numbers in S-K last year.  Big year for Manuel Geraldo.  Will he take it to the next level or hit his ceiling?

*********************************************************************************

Outfielders:  Jean Angomas B-L, T-R, Logan Baldwin B-L, T- L, Bryce Johnson B-S, T-R, Heliot Ramos B-R, T-R, Malique Ziegler B-R, T-R.

Heliot Ramos is obviously the big name and will get the priority for playing time in CF.  The rest will scrap for innings.

  1. Some good pitchers to watch, but really interested in the position. BART and RAMOS, of course..But also really looking forward to see how VILLAR and BALDWIN's power from S-K translates to High A San Jose.

One surprise to me, was RINCONES not joining Villar, Baldwin and Bart, but I guess we'll see him in AUGUSTA.

I read somewhere that Patick RUOTOLO, Sandra FABIAN and a few others are in extended spring training..

    1. Big step down for Ruotolo given how well he performed in Richmond last year...I don't get it...Oh well..

  3. Other than Ramos, any of the others have potential to play CF ( SJG )?

Almost seem like a Must play CF to play in SF even at the Corners.

    1. Like Pillar another CF who will probably play a Corner, Z is a busy man and I like what he doing and what he hasn't done.

  4. A little humor: AP Press Wire has a fill in the blank news release ready to roll out:

XXXXXX, recently acquired by the Giants' Farhan Zaidi, has been dropped from the 40 man roster and designated for reassignment.
