Ryan Howard and Chris Shaw are undoubtedly disappointed to be heading back to Richmond, especially Shaw, who spent all of last season in AAA Sacramento with 61 PA with the Giants. Farhan Zaidi's minor league FA acquisitions have not only pushed some of the Giants longer term prospects down to AA, but are populating the AA roster themselves.
Pitchers: Fernando Abad LHP, Melvin Adon RHP, Brandon Beachy RHP, Enderson Franco RHP, Alfred Gutierrez RHP, Ryan Halstead RHP, Kieren Lovegrove RHP, Rodolfo Martinez RHP, Conner Menez LHP, Carlos Navas RHP, Conner Overton RHP, Nolan Riggs RHP, Sam Selman LHP, Logan Webb RHP, Garrett Williams LHP, Sam Wolff RHP.
Webb, Williams and Menez are the main SP prospects to watch here with Webb in particularly looking for a breakout season now more than 1 year removed from TJ. Franco, Gutierrez and Navas should fill out the rotation. Brandon Beachy is trying for a late comeback after losing years of his career to injury. I believe Beachy is a graduate of Driveline Baseball, which was the previous employer of the Giants new pitching development guy. The Bullpen features several arms that have touched triple digits including Melvin Adon who is now on the Closer Track plus Kieren Lovegrove, Rodolfo Martinez and Sam Wolff.

Catchers: Jin-De Jhang B-L, T-R, Hamlet Marte B-R, T-R, Matt Winn B-R, T-R.
I'm always in favor of lefthanded hitting catchers in the organization and Jhang hit .320 for the Altoona Curve last season. He is 25 yo. Hamlet Marte is another Farhan Fave from the Dodgers organization where he mostly played at A+ Rancho Cucamonga last year. Matt Winn will have to scrap for playing time.

Infielders: Jonah Arenado 3B B-R, T-R, Gio Brusa 1B B-S, T-R, Ryan Howard SS B-R, T-R, Jalen Miller 2B B-R, T-R, Brock Stassi 1B B-L, T- L, Brandon Van Horn SS B-R, T-R.
Howard and Miller had strong spring trainings and should have the priority here over Van Horn, who does not appear to have enough bat to compete at higher levels. This is probably a make or break year for Arenado.

Fargas is the only one of this group who can cover CF so he plays by default. Heyward, Quinn and Shaw will have to scrap for playing time at the two corners.

This seems like a more competitive team than the last couple of seasons which is probably a good thing.

I don't know why nor do I think they should be in Richmond, but I hope to get a look at Shaw and Howard in Richmond before they are drummed out for Farhans's type..

I understand Shaw. Richmond is a harder place to hit than Sacramento. It'll give the team a better feel for how good he really is.
