Game Wrap 6/24/2015: Giants 6 Padres 0

Buster Posey hit a Grand Slam HR in the 3'rd inning and the Giants cruised behind the shutout pitching of Ryan Vogelsong and the bullpen.  Key Lines:

Joe Panik- 1 for 2, BB, SF.  BA= .303.  Panik drove in a run in the 5 run 3'rd with a sac fly.  The next batter, Matt Duffy drew a walk which set the stage for Buster's grand slam.

Buster Posey- 1 for 4, HR(11).  BA= .287.  Buster has 251 PA's so far.  He had 547 last year.  So he is projecting for 25 HR's and 100 Ribeyes after collecting 1 and 4 respectively tonight.

Andrew Susac- 2 for 4, 2B, 3B.  BA= .278.  The Incredible Hulk is a good hitter.  Catcher is another position where the Giants have an embarrassment of riches.  Do they get credit for that?

Gregor Blanco- 2 for 2, BB.  BA= .295.  Not sure why Pagan was leading off and Blanco hitting 8'th as Blanco is the hot hitter and the better OBP guy.

Ryan Vogelsong- 6 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 4 K's, GO/AO= 9.2.  ERA= 4.05.  Vogey made his statement for staying in the rotation after Peavy and Cain come back.  This was his second consecutive start with at least 6 IP and 0 R allowed.  His ERA over his last 7 starts is 2.85.

The Win enabled the Giants to keep pace with the Dodgers who they trail by 1 game in the NL West.  The Dodger topped the Cubs today.  The Giants also gained a game on the Cubs and now trail them by 1.5 games in the race for the second Wild Card playoff berth.  The Dangerous D'Backs came from behind to top the Reeling Rockies 8-7 to remain in 3'rd place, 4 games off the Dodgers pace.

Chris Heston tries to win the rubber game of the series tomorrow facing James Shields.

  1. susac is starting to see the ball better, but still has issues on defense

it is really sad to watch kemp at the plate now....that guy was a heck of a ballplayer and now....nothing

giants really have to figure out how to give craw more rest

i see that bochy was a bit more proactive with his use of the pen tonight, as compared to last night

vogey definitely does not want to go back to the pen....first week of july should be very interesting

if giants can continue to keep pace with the loss of pence and aoki...all is good

tomorrow should be an interesting game

    1. I would not write off Kemp yet, at least at the plate. He's run hot and cold his whole career except for that one year where he was hot all season.

  2. Hey Doc with Tommy Hanson rehab going well so far do you think he can help out as a bullpen arm if not a starter?

    1. Let's give Hanson a little more time. I think the Giants see him as a long term project and are eyeing him for next season more than for this one.
