Down on the Farm: 8/13/2013

AAA  Fresno Grizzlies beat the Omaha Stormchasers 7-4:

Gary Brown- 2 for 5, 2 2B.  BA= .230.
Tony Abreu(2B)- 3 for 4, 2B, SB(1). BA= .327.
Chris Dominguez(3B)- 2 for 5, 2B.  BA= .292.
Kensuke Tanaka(LF)- 2 for 3, 2 BB.  BA= .325.
Mitch Lively(RHP)- 6 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 3 BB, 7 K's.  ERA= 5.03.
Heath Hembree(RHP)- 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 K.  ERA= 4.07.

Gary Brown shows some signs of life.  4th QS in a row for Lively in which he has 23 K's in 24 IP.

AA  Richmond Flying Squirrels defeated the Akron Aeros 7-6:

Ryan Lollis(CF)- 2 for 4, BB, SB(4).  BA= .275.
Jarrett Parker(RF)- 1 for 2, 2B, BB, HBP.  BA= .248.

Parker's full slash line is .248/.354/.433 with 15 HR and 13 SB.

Modesto Nuts rolled over the San Jose Giants 9-3:

Ryan Cavan(2B)- 1 for 4, HR(3).  BA= .291.
Rickey Oropesa(1B)- 2 for 4.  BA= .329.

Jeff Soptic(RHP)- 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 3 BB, 2 K's.  ERA= 6.23.

I thought I saw Crick listed as the SP for this game, but it was Forjet instead.  Maybe I was dreaming?

Low A  Augusta Greenjackets whitewashed the Greenville Drive 2-0:

Trevor Brown(2B)- 2 for 4.  BA= .250.
Chuckie Jones(RF)- 2 for 3, 2B.  BA= .234.
Martin Agosta(RHP)- 3 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 4 K's.  ERA= 1.96.

Steven Okert(LHP)- 2 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 K, Save(2).  ERA= 2.98.

Cautiously encouraged by Chuckie Jones' second half.  This was Agosta's first start since July 21 due to the blister. He was on a 50 pitch count limit.  Nice 4 inning appearance for Gardeck.

Short Season  Salem-Keizer Volcanoes blanked the Hillsboro Hops 3-0:

Ryan Jones(2B)- 3 for 4, 2 2B, BB, 2 SB(9).  BA= .378.
Jeremy Sy(SS)- 2 for 5, 2B, SB(13).  BA= .281.

Dan Slania(RHP)- 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K, Save(3).  ERA= 2.35.

It will be interesting to see where all the middle infielders from Augusta and S-K shake out next season.

Rookie AZL  Giants smacked the Royals 9-4:

Christian Arroyo(SS)- 2 for 5, 2B.  BA= .299.
Ryder Jones(3B)- 2 for 5.  BA= .356.
John Riley(DH)- 2 for 4.  BA= .227.

Julio Pena(CF)- 2 for 4.  BA= .247.
Dylan Brooks(RHP)- 1 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 2 BB, 3 K's.  ERA= 3.60.

Who is Ben Leslie?  He's a 19 yo Australian prospect, 6'1", 185 lbs, B-L, T-L.  That's all I know.

DSL  Padres outlasted the Giants 9-8 in 12 innings:

Jean Angomas(LF)- 0 for 7.  BA= .255.
Richard Rodriguez(2B)- 2 for 3, 4 BB.  BA= .245.
Nathanael Javier(3B)- 2 for 6, HR(2).  BA= .222.
Miguel Gomez(DH)- 3 for 6, 2B.  BA= .306.
Kleiber Rivas(PH-C)- 2 for 3, 2B.  BA= .260.

Jean Angomas, ouch!

  1. Crick was scratched because of back spasms/tightness. He's scheduled to start this weekend instead.

    1. Do you know which day by chance? I was thinking about going and checking the kid out, depending which day he's taking the bump. Haven't been to a game yet this summer even thought I'm living in the area, but heading back to LA after the 30th, so I gotta get on the ball about this!

    2. Not really sure, but they'll probably announce it sometime tomorrow.

  2. Parker's .354 OBP and .433 SLG, if he can do that in the NL, would not be too shabby.

  3. You're not crazy, Crick was scheduled.

Ben Leslie played for Team Australia a bunch, u-14, u-16, u-18. Here's a link for further info: http://thebaseballdigest.wordpress.com/2012/02/09/san-francisco-giants-sign-victorias-ben-rustler/

Chase Johnson is looking like a very good draft pick. In fact, this year might be the best the Giants draft picks have performed in recent years. I think Ryan Jones needs a bump up, good scrapper spotlight.

And a Bryce Bandilla sighting! Amazing! That guy is way talented, and way fra-gi-le.

Saw some chatter about Duvall and Dominguez in the past DOTF, I'd say that Duvall is going to earn the bump to Fresno if he's healthy, and Dominguez will either get into Brett Pill territory or play all over. Duvall is following the Kieschnick model of Gints prospects who get freak injuries.

  4. Trevor Brown gets the bump to SJ, Rando Moreno goes to AUG. Nice move for Brown, maybe the lil Giants need a superutility. Interesting to me the two scrappers with contact profiles Brown and Duffy are getting moved.

  5. Much better than seeing Kelby Tomlinson at SS and Bobby Haney at 2nd. That was rough viewing.

  6. Sorry, I forgot to put in the Low A Augusta report. I've added it now. Agosta had a nice 3 innings in his first game back from the blister. 4 innings from Gardeck is an eye-opener. Cautiously encouraged by Chuckie Jones' second half.

  7. From MLB.com's Mayo: The Giants, Rockies, Angels, Royals and Reds lead all 2013 draftee hitters in combined OPS. The Pirates, Orioles, Giants, Cardinals and Red Sox boast the top five Draft-team ERAs. In a few years we'll see if that was any indication.

Not bad for the WORST drafting according to multiple pundits.

    2. Seems like Keith Law is backing off his initial harsh criticism of Arroyo as a first round pick.

    3. I'm sure Keith Law is back to singing Belt's praises. Now who gets credit for this swing again? Is it the Saber conference? How about the fangraphs staff? SB nation? Actually Dave Cameron did find something in King Felix's delivery, so lets double it down and give all credit to SpeierFuentes. That'll make everybody happy. Well, almost everybody...
