Game Wrap 8/30/2013: Giants 1 D'Backs 0

Angel Pagan scored the only run of the game while Big Time Timmy Jim pitched 6 scoreless frames and the bullpen finished it off in classic Giants fashion.  Key Lines:

Angel Pagan- 1 for 3, BB.  BA= .263.  Pagan doubled to lead off the game, was sacrificed to 2B by Scutaro and came home on a SF by Brandon Belt.  Bunting with no outs and a runner on 2B is a bit unorthodox, to say the least.  I didn't see it.  Perhaps Scutaro was trying for a hit?  Still unorthodox!  Maybe Bochy just felt like it was going to be a low scoring game or if the Giants could score that first run Timmy would pitch better with that lead. Hey!  It all worked out in the end!

Tim Lincecum- 6 IP, 6 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 2 K's, GO/AO= 10/1.  ERA= 4.38.  Timmy didn't have the strikeout pitch going except when he needed it with the bases loaded and 1 out in the 6'th inning.  He did have the groundball thing going, though.  Pablo made a terrific play on one groundball to end that 6'th inning.

Ryan Vogelsong takes the hill tomorrow evening facing Trevor Cahill.

  1. Lincecum has had some good games and some bad games. For this game, only 2K's and he still found a way to not give up a run. Is he evolving? Can he find some consistency? Perhaps he will work on a new pitch this off season, in addition to his diet/work out program.

If I am not mistaken in counting, this is his second straight subpar season and thus the time to really examine what we have with him. The experts really do their homework on this one!

    1. I keep going back and forth on this because I think it's a close call. If the season ended today, I would make a Qualifying Offer to Timmy. If he accepts, it's $14 M which is not nothing, but it's for just one season. If he rejects it, I would offer him a 2/$24 or at the most 3/$36. Absolutely no more than 3 years!!. If some other team thinks he's worth more in ticket sales and merchandise, then let him go!

    2. Timmy has looked much healthier this year, but it has not translated into increased velocity. Much more loss and he is getting dagnerously close to being a RH version of Barry Zito: No velocity, good secondary stuff, poor command.

  2. Halladay is done. Got smacked around by the Cubs. And some Giants fans want him for next year LOL the guy is washed up. How about those predictions about Cespedes for MVP LOL. Never seen an MVP with a .220 average and an OBP of .289. Neither the fans nor the Giants brass know nothing about baseball and that’s why the team is in such a state. Sabean just signs any unwanted players and hope they catch lighting. Thats his motto.

    1. This sounds like sarcasm, so I'll take it as such. Good points!
