What a great time for Timmy to get his mojo back. It seemed like he might be coming around his last game which was basically lost on one bad pitch. Tonight, Tim was all the way back outdueling Ubaldo Jimenez. After my criticism of Bruce Bochy in game 1 of this series, I have to give him props for putting Darren Ford and his game-changing speed into the game as a pinch runner for Mike Fontenot who had walked to lead off the 8'th inning. That move won the game as Ford used that speed to make sure he got to second base on Timmy's sac bunt, then alertly took off for 3'rd when a pitch in the dirt got just a couple of feet away from Rockies catcher Miguel Olivo. Olivo's hurried throw went into LF. Ford again jumped up and took off for home easily beating the throw for the game winning run, scored without the benefit of a hit! Gotta hand it to Boch and Sabes for having the foresight to bring Ford up for just this type of situation, and then using him. Key lines:
Mike Fontenot- 1 for 2, BB. In addition to his leadoff walk in the 8'th which eventually led to the winning run, Fontenot drove in the Giants other run of the game driving in Jose Guillen after his single with a walk to Buster Posey advancing him to 2B.
Tim Lincecum- 8 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 1 BB, 9 K's. ERA= 3.68. CarGone's 30'th HR was the only blemish. A great comeback win for Timmy! Man the stretch run sure looks a lot more promising with Timmy's mojo back, doesn't it?
Brian Wilson- 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 K, Save(38). ERA= 1.94. Wilson is guaranteed a much needed day off tomorrow.
With the W, the Giants moved up to 3 games behind the NL West Leading Padres who lost their 7'th in a row, 5-2 to the D'Backs. With the loss, the Rockies stayed 7 games off the pace and dropped to 4 games behind the Giants. In the Wild Card race, the Phillies beat the Dodgers again, 5-1 to maintain a 1.5 game lead on the Giants. The Cardinals lost once again to the 'Stros to drop 5 games behind the Phillies and 8 games behind the Reds in the NL Central race.
After a much needed day off, the Giants travel south to LA as Barry Zito will kick off the weekend series against the Dodgers trying to get his own mojo back after two of the worst starts of his Giants career, and that's really saying something.

What a win! Ford's dash and Olivo's error is payback for what happened Monday with the fluke triple.
ReplyDeleteYes, finally, Timmy is back! He had shown signs in past games, little by little.
Go Giants!
