Game Wrap 09-03-2010: Dodgers 4 Giants 2

I don't think many Giants fans had high expectations for this game. Good thing, because it was a snoozefest with an ending not in doubt for very long. Right now, Barry Zito vs Chad Billingsley is a mismatch, and not in the Giants favor! Key lines:

Buster Posey- 1 for 3. BA= .329. The Giants got a couple of runners on thanks to poor fielding by the Dodgers and Buster drilled a single over Furcal's head to drive them in. That was the Giants offense for the night.

Barry Zito- 4 IP, 4 H, 4 R, 4 BB, 5 K's. ERA= 4.18. First, he gives up a 2 run dinger to Rod Barajas with 2 outs and the pitcher on deck. Later, he gives the IBB to Barajas with 2 outs and runners on 2'nd and 3'rd only to give up a 2 run single to Chad Billingsley. What awful pitching! The bullpen stopped the bleeding, but it was too late with Billingsley cruising to an easy 2 hitter.

The Giants remain 3 games behind the NL West leading San Diego Padres who lost to the Rockies 4-3. In the Wild Card race, the Giants slipped to 3 games behind the Phillies who edged by the BrewCrew 1-0 behind Cole Hamels.

Matt Cain takes the mound tomorrow night against Ted Lilly in Chavez Ravine.

  2. well,

at least the game ended early enough for me to listen to the back end of the grizzlies

pharoh with a walk off slam...too bad they were eliminated earlier in the day

sandberg won pcl skip of the year...decker only got a few votes

i predict that the cubbies dont even bother with the interview process and name sandberg as the new skip...either during or right after the playoffs

  3. Yeah, 3 more years of Zito seems like an awfully long time. I'll go ahead and pound my chest here a bit. Way back in the offseason they signed Zito, I said that Ted Lilly was just as good or better and they could have signed him for 4 years/$40 M, less than 1/4 of the total they are paying Zito. Ah well, water under the bridge......
